A weekend of 3D carving for all levels of ability and experience. Beginners start on limestone but there is a greater choice of stones for those with more experience (soapstone, alabaster or Portland Stone - please note these may cost extra). The tuition is informal with enough guidance and demonstration to get you started but freedom to try things out. Tuition is personal and tailored to the level of experience and therefore suits beginners through to experienced carvers.
The course runs with 2 to 4 students where each student decides what they would like to carve.
Topics covered:
Covid-19 safety
Safety at work: Briefing about masks, goggles, footwear, lifting, working at the correct height.
Course manual:
-Covering an overview of rocks and their formation and their relative hardness
-The range of tools available, how to use, sharpening and where to purchase them.
Techniques for 3D carving: Profiling, carving direct.
The process: Roughing out, shaping and finishing.
I have a diploma in stone masonry but consider my strength is carving direct. I have 7 years of professional stone-carving practice and I am a qualified teacher.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
Every student has a course booklet (online to save paper). A professional banker on which to work and each student has provided a roll of tools (claw, 4 sizes of chisel, pointer) as well as access to all my professional tools and resources when I see you can develop.
I provide tea, coffee, cold drinks as well as biscuits and cake but ask that you bring your own pack lunch due to wide dietary requirements.
14 hours (9:00am to 4:00pm)
