Stone carving courses in central London

One of our students working on a Gothic Oak leaf

The London Stone Carving team are now running weekend courses throughout the year, covering all aspects of stone carving, from our fully equipped stone workshop, situated just off the old Kent Road, Central London.

Our classes are friendly open and flexible in their scope, covering all aspects of stone carving for all skill levels.
We maintain a low student to teacher ratio, no more than four students per tutor, meaning each student's experience can be tailored to their ambition and skill level and insuring they receive plenty of one to one tuition and guidance.

We have plenty of resources here at the workshop to give you inspiration, but we are more than happy for you to bring your own ideas along so that we can let you realise them in stone.

Our team has broad and expert knowledge of every aspect of working stone, from decorative architectural and ornamental carving through to figurative and conceptual stone sculpture as well as letter drawing and cutting for memorials, signs and plaques.

Students will leave with the basic skills and knowledge needed to continue carving & we will be happy to give advice and guidance on sourcing of tools and stone etc to students once they have completed a course with us.

We also offer private one-to-one tuition. These private sessions can be tailored to the individual students’ specific skill level & area of interest; from sculptural and ornamental stone carving processes to letter drawing & cutting for memorials. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch directly to discuss bespoke private tuition sessions via the 'Chat with the Maker' button.

Weekend course fees are £280 including vat.

We look forward to meeting you soon.

I would highly recommend anyone who is considering whether to go on this course to just go ahead and book it! Communication about the course was excellent - prompt reply to emails and lots of useful information provided. The actual course was superb, Sam and Josh were very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Good degree of supervision given with lots of one on one time, and I felt the projects were set at an appropriate level of difficulty for us. I had a thoroughly enjoyable time and will definitely be telling my friends and family about this!

Terrific weekend of carving. I have been stone carving for a while but I needed a refresher of learning to get me going again - and the weekend has definitely done that. . The guys really know their stuff and we’re able to communicate in a supportive but not patronising way to all in our group. Very friendly guys as well so I would thoroughly recommended them to anyone

Attended a weekend course at London Stone Carving and would highly recommend! The course leaders were great and managed a variety of skill levels with such ease. It was a perfect introduction and a thoughtful and enjoyable birthday present. I was surprised by how much we achieved in the two days. Thank you!

If you fancy a couple of days feeling like a bonafide sculptor / stone mason surrounded by legitimate works of Art then this is the course for you. The two Toms' were on hand to answer any question, big or small. A satisfying few days that I would certainly recommend.

I spent a fantastic weekend on the London Stone Carving beginners course a couple of weeks ago. Tom and Tom were great to work with and really encouraged us all. As someone who has never picked up a chisel and mallet in my life I was amazed at what we achieved over the weekend. I thoroughly recommend this course and huge thanks to the team for their tuition and help.

Great course! Experienced, talented tutors and a well equipped studio. I learned a lot and left feeling really inspired to get to grips with this amazing and challenging craft. I had a lot of one on one time with the tutors, and felt encouraged to develop my own artistic ideas as well as learning the technical skills and techniques required to bring them to life.
