About the Course
Inspired by the Cotswolds countryside, even first-time carvers will create a unique work of art to take home. This two day course takes place in David King's Ticket Office Studio, at the heart of the Cotswold Water Park.
The course covers basic stone carving techniques for beginners, whilst those with previous experience can explore new ideas and techniques.
With delicious home cooked lunches and cakes, you'll be well looked after!
You'll receive a safety briefing before you start and shown how to use the tools, then you'll be able to discuss your ideas and get going.
With expert guidance and patient encouragement, you'll soon be tapping away at your own pace.
Our website tells you more about David's work and his studio, The Ticket Office, but just get in touch if you have any questions.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
All stone is provided, along with tools, safety goggles and an apron. We do ask that you wear stout shoes for safety, and comfortable clothes that won’t suffer when they get dusty! The studio can be a bit chilly if the weather is poor so layers are a good idea too.
We provide coffee and tea with home made cakes and a delicious home cooked lunch. In fact, many of our visitors enjoy the food just as much as the carving!
Depending on the time of year lunch might be home cooked ham or salmon with a selection of salads or a hearty lasagne followed by desert. There is always a vegetarian option but if you do have specific dietary requirements just let us know when you book.
We're not yet able to provide accommodation (we have plans!) but can suggest options nearby if you are travelling any distance.
Thanks to Dave and Kaye for a great weekend course. I was so absorbed in what I was doing that it really did take food of the quality Kaye provided to convince me to down tools and take a break. Dave got the balance just right - imparting encouragement and wisdom where needed while also allowing me to explore my own ideas. He also offered helpful advice on the tools and supplies should I want to carry things on at home which needless to say I went straight out and bought.

I have always wanted to attend this weekend. I spent a while trying to decide what to carve (before I attended). Dave selected a piece of stone that he though would suit my turtle design. He helped when asked and gave great technical and artistic advice. The atmosphere was relaxed with good music. The lunch and refreshments were amazing. I would recommend this stone carving weekend and am very pleased with my finished turtle.

This was a long term dream come through. Thanks to David and his family, I had a really inspiring weekend, full of making, creating forms and being in the moment.
I have been inspired to set up a little workbench at home and will come back for more inspiration, when I have improved some length.
Lunch by Kaye was just as amazing.
Thanks all round.

A thoroughly enjoyable weekend. David is patient and extremely helpful in guiding beginners. To be able to produce an item after just two days of carving is highly rewarding. The lunches were fantastic and the mid-morning and mid-afternoon tea breaks (with brownies) were most welcome. I definitely plan to revisit and try a more ambitious project. This course is a definite must for the aspiring stone carver.

My wife bought me this course as a surprise and i coukdnt have asked for anything better. We had a warm welcome from David and Kaye and they looked after us (four in the group) in every aspect. All of us were total beginners but by the end of the 2 days we talked away (albeit dustier) with a finished piece of work. David is an excellent tutor and gives just the right amount of advice whilst leaving you to create your vision
Kaye was the ultimate host and her cakes, biscuits and lunches were superb.
Thanks very much both and i strongly recommend this course to everyone.

A great way of being absorbed in the moment!
And producing something at the end of it. Light touch tuition from Dave worked really well with timely nudges to keep me (and my creation) on track. Worked on a lump of Cotswold stone which transformed from a sleeping dog to a squashed squirrel😁 to finish as an abstract piece I've called "twins". Great hospitality throughout from Kaye with mid morning/afternoon coffee and cake stops in addition to two delicious mid day meals. A fab way to spend two creative days. Thanks.

This course was excellent. The class sizes are small (3 people when I did it) and so we all got lots of time with Dave. The introduction to the tools and techniques was very thorough and we were then left to let our imaginations run wild. Dave was on hand to continually monitor progress and offer advice. Kaye, Dave’s wife was also on hand to provide fantastic coffee and cake breaks as well as massive lunches. Overall, I was very satisfied and pleased with my stone carving. I’ve still no idea what it is but it takes pride of place in my conservatory. Highly recommended.
