Kay Sandham Banks studied Graphic Design at Carlisle Art College & Trent Poly. Having lived in Tooting for over 25 years, she now divides her time between her native Cumbria and London. As well as creating some impressive Mosaic in her London studio, Kay has also been the lead artist on a variety of mosaic murals, both as a designer and in a teaching role. Her most recent commission is for South Lakes
Council. She has extensive experience teaching Art and Design, Photography and Design Technology to a wide range of age groups in Tower Hamlets, Kennington and Wandsworth as well as teaching for the Camberwell Probation Service. Kay has also recently completed a PGCTA in Therapeutic Arts.
The workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a traditional converted Lakeland barn at Browfoot Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay in one of our luxury camping pods on the farm. Check our website for availability.
All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience. Whilst this is a relatively new venture, George, who has set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education.

A really enjoyable day, a small friendly group of ladies who all supported one another. The tutor had time to spend with each individual which was good and the range of tiles and equipment was more than expected. The venue is brilliant and well thought out to accommodate a wide range of students. Our hostess was welcoming and the catering was excellent. It’s a little way out geographically but the drive is well worth the fabulous views. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone who is looking for a lovely day of craft, company and good food. Well done the Cowshed x
Response from Cowshed Creative:Thanks Yvonne. We so appreciate all your lovely comments and hope to see you again!
The mosaic class was excellent. It was a small, friendly class so we all had plenty of individual attention from our teacher Kay, and we had a good selection of materials to choose from. The barn is beautifully converted with a great atmosphere and an enormous wood burning stove to keep us warm. The lunch was delicious and plentiful with yummy cake in the afternoon. The day was great value for money, I'm very pleased with my mosaic and I'll definitely be going back to learn more.
Response from Cowshed Creative:Thanks for all your lovely comments Jacqui. Hope to see you again!
