Duration: 1 day
at Cowshed Creative (Kentmere Farm Pods and Creative Courses)
About the Course
Mexican Day of the Dead festivities unfold over two days in an explosion of colour and life-affirming joy at the beginning of November. Join the celebrations and create your own exotic shrine using papier-mâché modelling techniques, paint and collage.
In towns and cities throughout Mexico, revellers parade in exotic costumes, create colourful papier mache figures and shrines and make offerings to lost loved ones. These exuberant celebrations have been embraced across the world. Join us to create a box style shrine, with doors, that can be used to store photos and artefacts. A quirky and original art work that is fun to make and requires a good sense of humour and a zest for celebration!
Kay Sandham Banks is an old pupil of the Lakes School, Windermere, who after going to Carlisle Art college & Trent Poly, set off for a practice job interview and came back 27 years later! Kay is exuberant in her enthusiasm for creative making and loves to share her skills and knowledge. She has extensive experience teaching Art and Design, Photography and Design Technology to Secondary and Primary pupils in Tower Hamlets, Kennington and Wandsworth as well as teaching Adults for Camberwell Probation Service. She has completed a PGCTA in the Therapeutic Arts.
The workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a traditional converted Lakeland barn at Browfoot Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay on the farm.
All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience. Whilst this is a new venture, George, who has set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education. .
