Make Your Own Chore Jacket

Atelier Beside the Sea is excited to announce an exclusive teaching partnership with Diana Upridge and DOLLY Clothing. Bringing her ever popular ‘kit classes’ to Brighton, you can now learn how to make a complete garment and gain new confidence in your sewing abilities.

This is a proper CHORE jacket. Designed to be worn while you’re out and about, with nice big pockets for your keys and phone, plus an extra top pocket to keep your train ticket or mask.

Our take on this classic workwear jacket has bust darts and a slightly nipped-in waist. When you make your own clothes you can get those details just right, so it looks perfectly tailored. Our favourite thing about this jacket is that it’s neat, short and fitted but I you can still wear a jumper underneath for walks.

This kit is for more experienced sewers but is still so much easier than it looks. Diana says “I promise, when you wear it out someone will ask where you got it and you’ll be able to shout with pride, “I MADE IT!“

The session will start with a brief introduction to our sewing machines. If you are not familiar with using a domestic sewing machine, we recommend you join Diana on her Introduction to Sewing course first.

Diana Uprichard is the founder of Dolly Clothing. An experienced designer, seamstress and teacher, Diana believes that sewing is nourishment for the soul.

From the Dolly studio in central Lewes, Diana runs sewing courses for adults, provides a bespoke alteration service and designs her own sustainable clothing collection. When she’s not in the studio, Diana can be found teaching school children how to express their creativity through the art of sewing.

A dedicated campaigner for sustainable fashion, Diana leads the Dolly team in awareness-raising campaigns and events. Designed to inform and inspire, Dolly’s events explore why our clothes are costing the earth and what we can each do to be the change.

Diana’s vision for a sustainable fashion future is built on her belief that there’s a wealth of power in a tiny needle and thread.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
