About the Course
Working with a Limited Palette - Learn the power of a simplified palette!
Watercolour made simple by using just 3 or 4 colours to make a painting. A good exercise for colour mixing and simplifying a painting that can produce wonderful results.
A two-day workshop for painters of all abilities who want to learn to understand more about colour mixing and not becoming ‘overwhelmed by colour’ through working with a limited palette in watercolour.
From reference, to sketch, to working drawings & design, to a completed painting, Ruth takes you through the steps of painting the statue of the ‘Fine Lady Upon A White Horse’ in Banbury Market Place with a limited palette.
There will be a field trip to see the statue and sketching time (weather permitting). It is recommended, but not essential, that you also attend the previous day’s ‘Understanding, mixing and using colour’ Workshop with Ruth to get the best from the two days.
Yorkshire based artist, Ruth Buchanan has been working in watercolour, oils and dry mediums first as an illustrator, then as an artist, for over 30 years. Ruth also writes and creates demonstration articles for ‘The Artist’ Magazine (UK) and The Artist Network (USA) and teaches workshops in the UK and USA. Although now best known as an equestrian artist, Ruth’s illustration background saw her primarily working with historical architecture and small still life. She jokes that she could be asked to draw or paint anything, so had to learn to draw and paint everything!
