Learn to make a rag baby quilt

X

Description

Come along and learn to make a rag baby quilt. (Or make a start on a larger quilt). Rag quilts are a unique style where all of the seams are on the OUTSIDE, and they are specifically designed to fray in the wash so they'll get softer and softer over time. Rag quilts can be made in several different styles ... either a quick and easy "quilt in a day" method. Or by piecing together blocks for a more intricate design. We'll talk you through both methods, and you can choose which one you prefer. There is no batting or wadding in these quilts. The warmth comes from 3-4 layers of fabric. It's a perfect technique for upcycling sheets or duvet covers, as you have a lot of fabric to work with. Come along and try something new!

What's included in the price?

We will have some colours of bedsheets and duvet colours, but if you would like to make a specific colour please bring your own. 100% cotton is our preference, but polycotton will also work. To make your extra snuggly it would be lovely to include a flannel (brushed cotton) sheet, or you can include a non-fraying polar fleece blanket on the inside. Please bring these fabrics if you would like to include them. Also, please bring your sewing machine and a neutral sewing thread. Please also bring your rotary cutter and a cutting mat. If you have a pair of "sprung scissors" (scissors that spring back open), please bring them. Or feel free to bring your favourite fabric scissors. We will have scissors for you to use, but this technique involves a lot of cutting and you may prefer to use your own. We will have some supplies for this course, that have been provided through generous donations from other crafters to add your own. Please bring your own lunch or lunch can be purchased in at the Morrisons' cafe or shop. ** We are a small charity devoted to getting people into craft. We aim to keep our workshop price as low as possible in order to make it as accessible as we can. We are always taking in donations of fabric and craft supplies, which we put towards future projects. So if you are clearing out your cupboards, please feel free to bring anything to the session that needs a new home. ** Children (10 years & up) are welcome at the session, but they must be accompanied by an adult (with a separate ticket). If you have any disabilities or support needs we will do our best to accommodate you. Please just drop us an email ahead of time to talk it through.
