Description

In this workshop we’ll create a hand bound journal, using your own ‘junk’! It’s a great way to recycle paper and card items around your home and repurpose them into a journal that you can add your journalling and treasured memories in. In the majority of my classes, all art materials are provided, but in this class, I ask you to bring along various materials you have found around your home, so that you can make a journal that is personal to you. I will provide everything else you will need on the workshop. Using your found materials, we’ll first create our book pages, and then create the covers. These will all be bound together to create your book. You’ll go home with a finished, hand bound journal, that is ready for you to start writing, drawing and creating in. This workshop is suitable for beginners. I will email you a list of what you need to bring, but I will provide all the glue, scissors, thread and needles in order to make the book. I will provide plenty of extra paper and cardstock, as well as other bits and pieces that we can play with. Workshops will take place at my home workshop just outside Stanley, County Durham. This workshop needs a minimum of two participants to go ahead, so why not come along with a friend? There will be a maximum of three spaces on this workshop. Please note that my home workshop is accessed by stairs. Ideas of what to bring: For the inside of the journal: Around 15 sheets of paper that is sturdy enough to write on. A4 paper or similar (30cm x 21cm) is a good size. This could be print outs that you've finished with, magazine pages, pages out of old books, decorative papers, etc. Greetings cards or letters that you would like to reuse Anything else you would like to use to make the journal personal to you. For the cover and spine of the journal: Some cardboard - old cereal packets or cardboard packaging are great, we'll cut this in to two sheets around 16cm x 22cm each Left over wrapping paper, patterned paper, wallpaper, etc., this will cover the outside of the journal, so at least two sheets A4 in size or bigger is great Images saved from a magazine or old books, artwork, photograph, etc., if you would like to add an embellishment to the front cover. Fabric scrap for the spine binding - around 30cm x 10cm is a good size

I’m Carrie, and I’m an artist and art and crafts teacher based in Stanley, north east England. I have been teaching art and crafts since the early 2000s and teach a weekly art and craft workshop in the local area for a social prescribing programme. Through personal experience, I know just how engaging with art and crafts can bring about a wonderful sense of wellbeing and relaxation. I absolutely love passing on my knowledge and the benefits of art and craft for wellbeing. I particularly enjoy teaching absolute beginners, so rest assured, whatever your art and craft experience, I will guide you through the process and make it as enjoyable as I can for you! I love to share my knowledge and tips and techniques, so I hope you'll find the classes fun and informative.
