Description

Middleton Hall is a new venue for us, for course reviews please see 'Reviews for this maker' below. On this weekend course, you will learn basic stone carving techniques and the use of tools to methodically create your own beautifully finished limestone carving to take home with you (examples shown in our photographs). Your tutor is Miranda, a professional sculptor and qualified teacher who will help you skillfully complete a carving you will be proud of using step by step guidance, examples and demonstrations. Complete beginners are very welcome. The workshop is held on the West Lawn of the stunning Middleton Hall, outside whenever possible, under cover if necessary, otherwise indoors. "Spent a really enjoyable - but intensive - couple of days carving a beautiful owl out of portland stone under the guidance of Miranda. The class was just the right size for Miranda to give each of us attention & assistance when we needed it & it was lovely to be working out in the fresh air (even under the gazebo when it was raining!). Middleton Hall is a gorgeous, quirky location - I'm looking forward to visiting just to take a proper look around."

"I’ve just finished the two-day stone carving course at Middleton hall and utterly enjoyed it. Miranda who ran the course was a great teacher making the process really enjoyable explaining everything in such a clear way that made it possible for everyone to accomplish a finished sculpture in the set time. It exceeded what I ever thought I could achieve in stone; think I’ve now got the bug and I'm looking into buying my own tools and stone to have a go at home. Miranda the tutor is excellent and provides 121 guidance and encouragement. It was a great experience, you knew you’d spent 2 days carving and I was really pleased with my efforts. "

"This course was a Christmas present for a friend who has always wanted to work with stone. He absolutely loved the 2 day course that was in a beautiful setting. Luckily the weather was good so he could work outside. He did say it was hard work but thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I benefitted from his hard work and was given the beautiful piece of art."
