Join us for this new and exciting workshop, as part of our Art in the Barn Creative Arts Week, in March 2022.
A mixed bunch of flowers in a favourite vase or jug is a simple pleasure and one that cheers; add a favourite ornament or two and you have a beautiful still life.
Numerous artists, such as Emma Dunbar, Debbie George, Emily Maudey and Jo Aylward, create images exploring the pattern, shape and colour of floral images. However, the Bloomsbury artists, including Vanessa Bell, Roger Fry and Duncan Grant, are the ultimate influencers of this relaxed, domestic imagery.
The workshop will be delivered by Alison Butler of Blooming Designs. With over 25 years of experience as a textile designer and book illustrator, Alison will guide you through a range of exciting mixed media approaches, including collage, drawing and painting.
This workshop is suitable for those with a range of creative experiences, looking to explore their collage, drawing and painting skills.
We will hold the workshop in our beautiful thatched Long Barn at Meon Springs. It’s an inspiring venue, with lots of light and its generous proportions, allowing you to be socially distanced from other participants, with your own equipment.
Please bring along: an apron, a newspaper and an A3 folder to transport your work home, a large pale plate or flat palette and a pencil case.
Depending on Government requirements, social distancing measures will be in place.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
The workshop will run from 10 - 4 pm, with places limited to 10, including tuition, materials and use of equipment, with refreshments served throughout the day; just bring your lunch.
6 hours (10:00am to 4:00pm)

I thoroughly enjoyed the day & felt I gradually got the feel of looser, more relaxed brushwork using vibrant colours.
It’s a fabulous venue & the teaching was just right for me.
Response from Blooming Designs - Art in the Barn:Dear Jennifer,
A really creative course, working with inks, paints and collage, using the Bloomsbury group as inspiration for making your own flower pictures. It is suitable for all types of experience - due to the quality of the teaching. The course is set in a beautiful, large, airy, light barn in West Meon. What’s not to like?
Response from Blooming Designs - Art in the Barn:Hi Jeni,
