Inspired by Bloomsbury: exploring a mixed media approach in Hampshire.

Join us for this new and exciting workshop, as part of our Art in the Barn Creative Arts Week, in October 2021. The workshop will be held in the beautiful Long Barn at Meon Springs. It’s an inspiring venue, with lots of light and it’s generous proportions, allow you to be socially distanced from other participants, with your own equipment.

A mixed bunch of flowers in a favourite vase or jug, is a simple pleasure and one that cheers; add a favourite ornament or two and you have a beautiful still life.

Numerous artists, such as Emma Dunbar, Debbie George, Emily Maudey and Jo Aylward, create images exploring the pattern, shape and colour of floral images. However, the Bloomsbury artists, including Vanessa Bell, Roger Fry and Duncan Grant, are the ultimate influencers of this relaxed, domestic imagery.

The workshop will be delivered by Alison Butler of Blooming Designs. With over 25 years experience as a textile designer and book illustrator, Alison will guide you through a range of exciting mixed media approaches, including collage, drawing and painting.

This workshop is suitable for those with a range of creative experiences, looking to explore their collage, drawing and painting skills.

Please bring along: an apron, a newspaper and an A3 folder to transport your work home, a large pale plate or flat palette and a pencil case.

I thoroughly enjoyed the day & felt I gradually got the feel of looser, more relaxed brush work using vibrant colours.
It’s a fabulous venue & the teaching just right for me.
Thank you.

A really creative course, working with inks, paints and collage, using the Bloomsbury group as inspiration for making your own flower pictures. It is suitable for all types of experience - due to the quality of the teaching. The course is set in a beautiful, large, airy, light barn in West Meon. What’s not to like?

Response from Blooming Designs - Art in the Barn:

Hi Jeni,
It was lovely to see you again and great to see you engaging with the Bloomsbury vibe !
Happy painting .

Best wishes
