Have you ever wanted to try free-motion embroidery on your sewing machine but didn’t know where to start?
I run workshops to help get you started using your machine for free-motion embroidery. During the day we will be learning the art of free-motion machine embroidery to create a fun and contemporary appliquéd panel. Ideas will be provided but you may work on any subject you like and you will end the day with a finished piece of work to take home! The final panel will be perfect for framing, or can be appliquéd on to a cushion or bag to make a completely unique gift.
You will learn how to:
– Choose fabrics to use with this technique
– Use colour and pattern to create dynamic results
– Piece your fabric together
– ’Draw’ in detail with the sewing machine
Numbers: 6 spaces per workshop. Small class sizes allow me to give individuals plenty of attention.
Location: The workshops will take place at The Quilting Bee, a lovely fabric shop in Craig Y Don, Llandudno. They have a dedicated workshop room that is light and spacious and perfect for running my workshops! The shop is stocked full of gorgeous fabrics and everything you could need for your sewing projects and you will get a 10% discount on all purchases on the day! NB, there is a flight of stairs to reach the workshop space, there is a hand rail and I can carry your machine up for you, but if this will be a problem, please get in touch.
Equipment: Bring your machine & develop the confidence to use it for free-motion embroidery. (You will need to bring your machine fitted with a free-motion embroidery foot) - Using your own machine will allow you to get to know how it feels using this technique so you can carry on easily once you get home! If you don’t have your own machine please get in touch as I am able to supply one for a small hire fee of £5.
Dates: My workshops run approximately 4 times per year. Please get in touch if you have any questions or if you would like to arrange a date for a group booking. I also offer one to one sessions.
I am a textile artist based near Conwy on the North Wales coast. I create fun and colourful textile illustrations, jewellery, cards, prints and gifts. I am a professional Graphic Designer and Illustrator. I am not formally trained in textiles but have always loved to sew since I was taught as a little girl. It was only a matter of time before I combined my love of fabrics with my love of creating images and my textile illustrations are now my main creative outlet. I really enjoy running my workshops and always try to make the day welcoming, fun and productive as possible. You will go home inspired and proud of the work you have created. I keep the number of participants low so that I can give everyone as much attention as they need.
Please get in touch.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
The £39 workshop fee includes all the materials you will need during the day plus unlimited tea, coffee and biscuits. You need to bring a packed lunch with you or you can pop to te local shop or eat in cafes nearby! You need to bring your own machine (you need to be able to drop the feed dogs) with a free-motion embroidey foot to the workshop but I do have machines that can be hired for a small fee if you do not have your own or you cannot find the correct foot for your machine. What a fantastic day I had at Chloe's free-motion machine embroidery workshop. Chloe made the day very enjoyable with her lovely personality and patience. My 27yr old Toyota machine with a free-motion foot was fine for the sewing. A recent visit to Amsterdam was the inspiration for my sewing piece and there was plenty of time that day to finish it. Would definately go again and I highly recommend Chloe as a tutor. Her experience, patience and seeing her work, makes the workshop worthwhile.
My friend and I attended a free motion machine embroidery course with Chloe. We had a lovely day & I was really pleased with the panel I made of my horse & stable.
There were only 4 of us, as the workshop is "cosy", this meant plenty of attention & help from Chloe. As an artist she offers great advice on layout & colours. It was very interesting to see how different everybody's work was at the end of the day! You do need to take your own sewing machine (at the time of our course) so it pays to make SURE that your machine is capable of this type of work, to get the most out of your day. I would certainly recommend a course with Chloe if you fancy having a go at this technique, she is very friendly and patient.
