Join artist Julie Galante for this online workshop in which you’ll make a series of paper collages using a variety of approaches and techniques.
Collage is a way of creating a visual work of art by combining different elements - be they found images, patterns, bits of text, textured papers - in new and sometimes unexpected ways. We’ll explore collage through a series of tutorials covering different ways to create balance and visual interest, using a variety of subject matter (landscapes, faces, found poetry) as inspiration for our creations.
This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners, as well as those with experience who’d like to explore new approaches to making collage.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
This workshop includes a two-hour live Zoom session, access to a series of instructional videos and demos, and a one-hour sharing Zoom event (all in all the equivalent of around two days of workshop activities, which you can work through at your own pace). Additionally, participants will receive a custom kit of collage papers via post in advance of the workshop (first class postage to UK addresses is included).
The optional one-hour Zoom sharing event takes place at the same time two weeks after the initial live workshop. This will be a casual opportunity for you to share your work, see what others have made, and ask any questions you may have.
There will be a short list of the additional supplies you’ll want to gather before the live workshop — things such as scissors, glue, and inks or watercolours, which many of you will already have on hand.

I loved doing this course. Julie generously shares her skills and tips, and the online resources you have access to are excellent. The course is suitable for both absolute beginners who want to get in touch with and develop their creative sides, and more experienced artists who want to use collage as a springboard to unlock ideas. I've been a practising artist for many years but recently had a creative block; collage has helped me to break thorough this. I can highly recommend this course.
Response from Airtily:Thank you! I'm so glad you found this course useful. Sometimes a diversion into a different medium is just what we need to get past a creative block.
This course was really fun. I’ve struggled with my writing recently but this tapped into another sphere of creativity and allowed me to let loose with interesting materials - I kept coming back to words and literary references which was also nice. And a lovely bunch of people to share a couple of hours with !
Response from Airtily:Thank you so much, Lynne. I love that your creativity was sparked by trying out new materials!
Julie is a calming creative force who embraces where you are at in your art journey right now. Supporting the neat and neurotic to the expansive and chaotic, this collage course was exactly what I wanted it to be. I enjoyed the wide variety of participants in the course and learned to treasure my trash and unleash my creative forces. I'll be on the lookout for more courses by Julie.
Response from Airtily:Thank you so much. I'm so glad you enjoyed the workshop (and are now treasuring those envelopes!).
A well constructed course, with good follow up online material. Relaxed and informative.
Response from Airtily:Thank you so much, Nicola! It was a pleasure to have you join me for this workshop.
