About the Course
The ‘pebble’ technique was originally developed from working samples produced for a Coastal exhibition. Participant’s will spend the day exploring a layered fabric manipulation and quilting technique and create a highly ornate, and textural sample, in their chosen colour way, that can be used on bags, cushion covers and garments. This is an ideal workshop for beginners and the more experienced in free machine embroidery.
All materials inc embroidery threads are provided but participants need to bring:
Sewing machine and manual
Free- machine or darning foot (sample cannot be achieved without this foot)
A couple of spare bobbins
Metallic or 100/16 sewing machine needle.
90/12 sewing machine needle.
Small pair of comfortable embroidery scissors.
Machine embroidery threads to include FS 20 Superior metallics if you have them.
Alex provides a large quantity of mixed fabrics but if you are able to raid your own stash of little bits of space-dyed or commercial fabrics to inc silk velvet, dupion, velvet, metallic leather/faux leather – sequin fabrics this will be helpful on the day.

First time visiting this excellent craft venue today to learn how to make soldered book covers with Alex Waylett. Julie and Brian are excellent hosts and we were well and truly looked after and made to feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and I look forward to a return visit!
