About the Course
Learn the craft of traditional lampshade making. Over two days, you will learn how to make a balloon lined bowed empire shade using traditional hand stitching techniques. Students are taught how to fit the fabric on the straight grain, allowing you to use any pattern you choose. Comprehensive notes and full instructions on how to tackle other types of frames are also covered so you can confidently tackle many other shapes.
Angela Constantinou has been making bespoke lampshades since 2009, soon after completing a City and Guilds in Soft Furnishings at the London Metropolitan University. She runs two companies; Cocoon Home Bespoke, creating made-to-measure curtains, blinds and lampshades and Cocoon Home Interiors, an textile company that works with British artists to reinterpret traditional textiles.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
Everything is provided to students on the traditional lampshade making course, including a selection of fabrics. However, if you would like to make a shade in a fabric of your choice, you should bring along 1.25m (or 1.75m if the fabric is less than 137cm wide) of a light to medium dress weight fabric. Cottons, such as tanna lawn, poplins are great, as are silks, such as doupion/raw silks. Light weight linens are also good. Do not bring furnishing fabric!
Please bring a large bag on the second day so you can take your lampshade home.
