Over the years we have run a number of very successful gel plate printing workshops. We have introduced many makers to mono printing using gel plates, enabling them to develop a range of skills and techniques, including: creating base colours, layering and impressing to create texture and visual interest, plus the development of stencils and exploring masking techniques.
A number of people have expressed an interest in attending a second gel plate workshop, with the focus on developing their skills in a more considered and advanced manner, allowing them to focus on creating fewer, but high quality prints.
We will recap the foundation stages previously mentioned and then allow you to focus on developing smaller editions of prints around chosen themes, techniques or colour ways. We will also introduce you to: direct painting and mark making, exploring banded backgrounds by masking and freestyle layering.
You may wish to bring along and use larger gel plates, eg 8 x 10 inches, 12 x 12 inches or 12 x 14 inches, allowing you to increase the scale and impact of your work.
We will be on hand throughout the day to offer advice and guidance on a more individual level, discussing specific approaches that will support your development as a maker.
We will be joined by artist and maker Liz Wellby, who lives and works on the edge of the Peak District in Derbyshire. With over 25 years experience teaching and tutoring, Liz will guide and support you throughout the workshop.
This workshop is aimed at makers with previous experience of gel plate printing. Places are limited to just 10.
Please bring along: an apron, old acrylic paints or favourite acrylic colours you enjoy using, a quantity of spare or incomplete gel plate prints, your gel plate/s, any stamps, stencils or tools you use when gel plate printing, and a folder to transport your work home.
