Duration: 1 day
at Cowshed Creative (Kentmere Farm Pods and Creative Courses)
About the Course
This workshop will provide an opportunity for people of all abilities to explore drawing and painting without the constraints of it “looking like something”. Through abstraction comes the ability to learn more about what paint can do. The workshop will explore mark making, composition and tonal / colour balance, as well as different starting points for inspiration, utilising the wonderful surrounding landscape for inspiration.
Catherine MacDiarmid is a local artist who has exhibited widely, including the BP Portrait award for young artists in 2001/2. She is an elected member of The Lakes Artists Society and appeared in Sky Portrait Artists of the Year 2014, 2018 and 2019. As well as completing private portrait commissions her work is collected internationally. Catherine works from her home based studio in Kendal. Her art work focuses on the human form, exploring expression and movement in both drawing & painting.
Catherine is a really inspiring teacher and has a great ability to help students develop their skills.
This workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a traditional converted Lakeland barn at Browfoot Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay on the farm.
All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience. Whilst this is a new venture, George, who has set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education.
