Rachel Higgins reviewed: Advanced spoon carving techniques

"Thank you Nick and Debbie for a fantastic day carving a spoon. It was great to see the whole process from log to spoon. We particularly loved learning axe skills. Debbie’s cake and coffee kept us going all day too. We would recommend this course to anyone who has an interest in heritage skills, Nick certainly knows what he is talking about. We will be back to carve a Scandinavian bowl/cup in the future. Thanks again for a brilliant day."

Rob reviewed: Beginners 1-day 1-2-1 woodturning workshop for 1 person

"I really enjoyed learning the basics of woodturning with Simon! Great instruction and friendly chat with it. I was very proud of the pieces I made on the day with Simon's help. Woodturning is very satisfying, with a real zen quality about it once you get in the zone. It is definitely something that would be hard to learn from a book or videos as it was all about feel, and small changes to angles. However, with an expert helping guide me by showing me the exact movements the tools needed it felt like I made really good progress in just one day. (I'm sure I'm no woodturning prodigy; Simon is just nice) Lunch was great - way better than expected. I'd imagined something basic so I was delighted by a delicious spread. One note: I went in January and it was very cold. I was very glad of a full set of thermals I had chucked in the car at the last minute which I popped on half way through, so if you are going in the bleak midwinter then do dress warm! Overall a great day, highly recommended."

Blended Monkey - pottery - woodturning - green woodworking - pole lathe - throwing responded:

"Hi Rob, Thanks for your kind review - much appreciated. Had I known you were cold I would have turned up the heater thermostat! :) You are the first to mention it, so I'll keep it in mind for future students at this time of year. I keep the workshop at around 15 degrees C to ensure that the tools and machinery are kept at an optimum temperature. Glad you had a backup plan though and that it didn't spoil your day. -- Simon"

eileen eyers reviewed: Stained glass garden panel workshop - Hampshire

"I had a most enjoyable day with Rachel and the two women who shared the session. It was great to 'have a go' at something completely new and different. Rachel is a joy to be around, she is friendly, cheerful, encouraging and motivating. She has all of the skills required of a teacher, patience being uppermost when it came to my glass cutting. Choosing which glass to use was difficult as Rachel has such a variety of textures and colours on offer, all of which are beautiful. I am very pleased with my finished product and look forward to finding a special place for it in my garden."

Kaye reviewed: An Introduction to Weaving with a Table Loom, Oxford

"Had a fab day with Jeremy learning the basics of weaving. Starting from knowing nothing I quickly learned my warp from weft and how threading and lifting change a design. Another hobby to add to my other yarnie ones as soon as I have a loom of my own that is (please Santa.......?) Jeremy is a gentle and patient tutor, helping as needed but leaving you to get on with it too - somehow knowing when all is well and when things are going wrong !!. His range of samples to study is a delight and inspiration."

Jeremy Uden Designer/Handweaver responded:

"Thanks Kaye. I'm really glad you enjoyed it! Jem"

K James reviewed: Beginner's Spinning in Newcastle

"I did the beginners spinning course today with Cathy at the Eden Tea Rooms. What a great day. Cathy and her daughter were extremely knowledgeable and very patient. Cathy guided us through every step of the process and they were both on hand to get us out of trouble when things went a bit wrong. There were 4 of us on the course and we all created a skein of yarn to take away. From my point of view it was something I had wanted to do for some time and I wasn’t disappointed. I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn spinning."

Lazykate Textiles responded:

"Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this review, we really appreciate it. We had a brilliant day, your spinning was beautiful. We can't wait to follow your spinning journey Cathy and Jessamy"

Tim Adams reviewed: Woodturning tuition in Wiltshire

"Andy provided a really enjoyable day for my first intro to woodturning. Not only lots of hands-on with expert guidance but also discovering the importance and complexities of tool sharpening. Had a go at spindle turning and ended the day with a nice little oak bowl to show off. Beyond the woodturning tuition, I also enjoyed the banter, the Yorkshire humour (!!) regular break for tea or coffee and cakes/biscuits (thanks, Mary!) and of course Angus the dog.
Highly recommended to anyone at any level."
