An emerging textile and fibre artist from Norfolk, Jenny (MA) specialises in hand woven textiles pushing technique and fibre in unusual and contemporary ways. Being a sustainability advocate, Jenny opts for more environmentally friendly fibre and yarn choices which results in the play and experimentation of otherwise wasted materials. Jenny is excited to introduce you to learning the basics and foundation of weaving in new and exciting ways! Join Jenny in this series of hand weaving workshops to learn the basics of weaving. Using a tapestry loom that Jenny has designed, and laser cut from sustainable AB grading, PEFC certified poplar plywood. The sessions will begin with the basic techniques of warping up your loom and covering some foundation weaving techniques. Experimenting with a variety of yarns and fibres you will have the chance to develop and explore these techniques throughout the workshop with the support of Jenny. The sessions will be an introduction to weaving and the basics, following on from this there is the opportunity explore more advanced techniques, adding texture, using a variety of materials, colour and more, all with the support and guidance of Jenny. At the end of the session, you will go home with your very own woven wall hanging!
What's included in the price?
Each session aims to teach everyone at their own pace, so whether you're a total beginner or you're a little rusty we can work on exciting creations together. There is also the opportunity to have a demonstration and trial of Jenny's 4 shaft table loom along with first hand look at a range of hand-woven samples by Jenny for inspiration and a look into the amazing possibilities of weave! Included in every session is refreshments and cake with ample parking directly outside the studio. The tapestry loom kits are available to rent at the session which is included within the price of the workshop along with a selection of sustainably sourced yarns and materials to complete a woven sample within the session. The main aim of these sessions is to introduce you to the exciting possibilities and potential of weaving and most importantly have fun with it! There is the option to purchase your own kit at the workshops for a reduced price of £20 (usually £25). The kits include 1 x tapestry frame loom, 1 x comb, 2 x pick up sticks, 2 x shuttles, 1 x large tapestry needle, 2 x small tapestry needles, 3 x yarn bobbins, written instructions on how to set up the loom and a breakdown of the tools and basics to get you started. There is also the option to purchase more fibre and yarn packs at the sessions if you wish.
