We had such a great day with Lucy! I tackled a chair project I wouldn't have figured out on my own and learned lots of skills for future projects. The setting was picturesque and relaxed and Lucy was full of knowledge and a great teacher. The group of ladies on the day were lovely, and the homemade lunch and cake was delicious.
I will be booking onto another course in the future.

A fabulous day learning to upholster dining chairs in a beautiful, relaxed setting. Lucy is a super teacher - warm, supportive and encouraging. So kind going the extra mile to lend me her tools so I can finish off at home -much appreciated! As mentioned in other reviews, the coffee, cake and such are amazing and really add to a great experience. Will definitely be back with another project.
Sue - - #11904
I had a really enjoyable and productive day - a great introduction to upholstery in lovely surroundings and with the relaxed guidance Lucy dispenses as freely as the tea and cake. Managed to get four drop-in seats reupholstered to a better standard than I thought possible for a first attempt, plus a piano stool seat 80% done without rushing.
Although it was all new to me, it was quite therapeutic when I got into it and the day seemed to flash by. The resources, tools, materials and ambience are all excellent, but Lucy provides the spark and has the know-how to make it into a splendid day.

Wonderful place for creative workshops set in the heart of Derbyshire. Lucy gives a very warm welcome and the whole day is punctuated by frequent hot drinks, home-made cakes and also a really tasty lunch. It was very interesting to see the various projects that students were involved in and glean snippets of useful information. Lucy is very generous with her advice, not just on how to make things, but where to find the best bargains or recycling centres. I needed some follow up advice from Lucy and she replied very promptly - all in all a very enjoyable workshop.

My friends and I had a fabulous day on the upholstery course. A beautiful setting at Lucy's home with home made cakes endless cups of tea and a hearty lunch. Lucy's knowledge, skill and patience helped us all. As beginners we did not know what to expect but found we quickly began to learn and we were all really pleased with our results. I am definitely going to book another course.
Thank you Lucy x

Great way to spend a day with girlfriends in beautiful surroundings along with delicious homemade cakes and lunch. We had lots of fun as well as producing some nice pieces. Lucy was lovely and really helpful and patient. As a complete novice I personally learnt an incredible amount and I’ve now definitely been bitten by the Upholstery bug. Looking forward to my next project. Thank you Lucy

Probably worth admitting upfront that I'm a returning customer on Lucy's workshops - which is a good review in itself! As ever, the day flew by with Lucy being attentive, knowledgeable, helpful and keeping us supplied with delicious lunch and cake!
I think that Lucy gets the balance just right - you want to come away feeling like you've achieved something and learnt new skills but equally (for me at least) the day feels like a treat and not all hard work.
I find that every time I attend one of Lucy's workshops, I come away inspired by new ideas, both from Lucy herself and the other attendees. I think it's a real positive that people take different projects as it gives an opportunity to pick up different tips throughout the day.
I came away from the day with a recovered seat pad for a drop-seat chair, a new cushion to brighten up my living room, an enthusiasm to start a project I've been putting off for over a year and a smile on my face!

Having practised upholstery a few years ago I had the opportunity to return to it when my son said he needed a chair re-upholstering. Just the excuse I needed to take it up again now that I am retired. I decided that I needed a kick start to help me get underway so I attended one of Lucy's workshops. I knew that it was a huge project to undertake in one day but with the help and guidance I received from Lucy before, during and after the course, she has given me the confidence to achieve my goal. On the day I benefitted from learning new skills and techniques combined with Lucy's advice, help and enthusiasm. I was impressed with Lucy's breadth of knowledge which enabled her to work with the different projects on the day. Lucy's hospitality was perfect. She baked some delicious cakes and scones and made a wholesome soup for lunch. I thoroughly enjoyed the company and the relaxed environment of her beautiful home. I was exhausted at the end of the day having achieved so much. I look forward to attending another course next year.

What a fabulous day we had on Lucy’s Upholstery Workshop. A beautiful venue, a warm welcome & a cuppa and we were off. Ideas, materials & fabrics, tools and lots of expert advice we’re all readily available from Lucy. The day flew by and after a lunch of homemade soup & breads, we were all itching to crack on and we all achieved completed projects by the end of the day. Lucy was always there to guide us in a caring & creative way. And now we have all caught the ‘Lucy Renshaw creative bug’, we can’t wait to put our new skills into practice & to do more workshops with Lucy.
Ally Gilbertson - - #11171
What a fantastic day - Lucy was so helpful and experienced. The venue was perfect, she had loads of tips and tricks. She has lots of materials and extras that helped us shape and create our upholstery projects. I so wish I could post a before and after picture of my blanket box.
Lucy made us a perfect home cooked lunch and she fuelled us with home made scones and tea coming out of our ears all day.
The best thing was we all had different projects and different levels of experience - and Lucy adapted her style to all of us. She was patient, knowledgeable, creative and had loads of tip, tricks and work arounds. I highly recommend the whole experience and one I am going to repeat.
Lisa Tomlinson - - #11160
I enjoyed the course immensely, Lucy made me feel welcome and it helped that the other participants were super friendly and helpful as I managed to learn a lot from their individual projects. Lucy was keen to share as much as she could possibly could and no question is a silly question either. I came away having learnt how to sand down a chair, decoupage (both paper and material) on a chair and a picture frame and reupholstering a dining room chair. As well as observing whilst others were being explained the various steps. Lovely snacks and lunch available. I highly recommend this course.
Claire Mutiwanyuka - - #10523
Lucy made me very welcome; right from the moment of first contact.
Her enthusiasm and expertise twinned with encouragement and guidance made for a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
If I lived closer to Lucy, I would be back often. The home cooked food was also delicious.
Angela - - #10514
Fabulous class - our second time as we enjoyed it so much before. Even better this time with brilliant instruction, great company, lovely surroundings and home made food - what more could you ask!
Susan G - - #9899
Lucy lives in a beautiful part of Derbyshire and invites attendees into her lovely home, which is set up perfectly for small workshops, which means you almost get 1-2-1 guidance and assistance on your chosen project. It is a fun, relaxing day and I think it works really well other folk bringing different projects as it means you get to learn from each other. I would highly recommend a day with Lucy, she gave me lots of practical advice and showed me plenty of techniques. It was a joy!
Andy - - #9574
I had an excellent day with Lucy and came away with a reupholstered chair which I was very happy with. Learnt a number of useful tips; I"m looking forward to starting another project.
Wonderful location in Lucy's beautiful home with a wonderful lunch served on the terrace.
A perfect day
Alison Walker - - #9407
Great day. Lucy is excellent at holding a workshop. Friendly,
Relaxed flexible attitude to everything and everyone. She could not have been more accommodating and welcoming. An intimate experience in Lucy's home, with great input and
assistance as required. Lunch prepared by Lucy, in her garden was a definite bonus, the food was delicious, and the
amount of 'time out' just right, as the afternoon raced by to 4pm. I didn't quite finish my upholstery project, but was
Confident enough to do the last bit at home. Lucy made sure
we all got as much done in the time as we could, without 'pressure'.
Rose Jones - - #9396
Absolutely loved the course, Lucy is a great teacher. Classes are nice and small (only 4 on the upholstery & upcycling I attended). We all happened to bring a chair each but they were all completely different. Lunch (& cakes) provided were home-made and superb, we even sat outside to eat in the lovely garden. I enjoyed the course so much I have booked the Interior Design course!
Sarah Shelton - - #9307
What a lovely day, Lucy was so helpful and patient. She gave us a delicious lunch. I managed to finish my project and learnt so much.
Louise Magill - - #8975
I thoroughly enjoyed this one day upholstery course, learnt lots of different upholstery techniques as well as some sewing techniques & shortcuts. Was made to feel very welcome & homemade soup & cake was delicious. Lovely location. I will definately be attending again & will recommend to family & friends.
Joanne Roebuck - - #8971
Lucy is very welcoming and an excellent teacher. I had a brilliant day and learnt lots of new skills. Lucy made everything seem so easy. I made buttons for my footstool and piping for cushion covers. Things i always thought were too difficult. It was a very relaxing and enjoyable day with delicious homemade cake and lunch. I would definitely recommend the courses and hope to go back myself.
Yvonne Jones - - #8945
What a fabulous day resulting in the successful completion of a project involving a king-size headboard. This was a great personal achievement with thanks to Lucy for her knowledge, patience and advice. The bonus of a beautiful setting with a delicious lunch and cakes throughout the day made the experience most enjoyable. I would have no hesitation in highly recommending the course
Jo Soar - - #8563
A thoroughly enjoyable and productive upcycling day with a welcoming friendly tutor in a delightful relaxed environment in beautiful Derbyshire countryside. The addition of a tasty lunch and delicious home made cake made the day complete.
Karen Fairholme - - #8521
Wonderfully practical for a total novice like myself. I had very little confidence(and nearly didn't go) as this is a totally new arena for me. Kevin came too and he did the sanding and painting.
The very small class (3 of us) was perfect as I think if there were more people, it could be irritating I you had to wait for help. Wonderful homemade cakes and flapjacks served too!
We left at the end with some pretty passable creations: a wrecked footstool destined for the tip became a rejuvenated piece that will sell; a tatty cheap chair with an upholstered seat looks amazing now with a new lease of life - and a boring brown nest of tables began to become interesting again with paint and decoupage applied!
Highly recommend this course and can't wait to go again! Hope to take some others with us next time as it was such fun, so perfect for a corporate small team-building day out. :-)
SUSAN GLENDINNING - - #8248
Absolutely loved the course. Lucy is a good Tutor and excellent host .
I am very pleased with the result of my project , which was upholstering an 100 year old dining room chair. Lucy's advise not to paint the chair but just strip it down to the natural wood proved right.
My 17 year old daughter also enjoyed it very much and felt treated as an adult.
karin Mark - - #7603
Superb day in every way! This was my first visit to Lucy's and was a bit nervous but Lucy is so friendly and welcoming and her knowledge is exceptional; she is full of patience and whilst I was concentrating on my project ( a Roman blind) Lucy manages to advise / assist the other ladies but was always on hand to answer questions or help out. We all had different projects and it was great seeing other people's ideas. I managed to go home with a completed blind and the confidence to make more. We were also spoilt with lovely home cooked lunch with plenty of tea and cakes. A thoroughly relaxing day which I hope to repeat again soon.
Kim - - #7592
Had a really lovely day getting creative on Lucy's course. She had some great ideas and was very knowledgeable. I took a couple of wooden storage trays looking for inspiration, I was very pleased with the results ending up with a lovely piece of furniture. Highly recommended, very relaxed and the home made soup was delicious. Thanks Lucy, I hope to be back for another course.
Jane Cockcroft - - #7582
Absolutely loved my day with Lucy. I spent the day transforming an old coffee table with decoupage and a paint effect. Lucy is extremely knowledgeable about all sorts of techniques and I learned loads from listening to the other ladies on the course as well as my own project. Lovely lunch and homemade cakes too!
Carol Morris - - #7544
Another excellent course with Lucy. Really enjoyed learning how to decoupage and Lucy's artistic eye really helped me to produce a great tray which I'm really proud of. Her knowledge is extensive and she is always so warm and helpful. Great teaching, great environment and great food!!
Sally Newton - - #7323
A fantastic day! I really enjoyed the whole experience. Lucy provided an excellent relaxed environment to work, as well as a delicious lunch and homemade cakes. I learnt many new skills, both through my own project and through the other students work. Lucy was always on hand to help and offer advice. I came away with not only a finished piece of work, but the inspiration and confidence to begin other projects. Will certainly try to attend another of Lucy's courses in the future!
Lee Rector - - #6914
This was my second upholstery day with Lucy: I had progressed from footstool to dining room chair! Brilliant day: suddenly in the last hour it all comes together and we each finished our projects. Superb informal but focused day: so many tips and techniques learnt as we went along. Really lovely homemade cakes and lunch too. A day with Lucy is a great inspiration - I left with my transformed chair, motivated to get on with my next project. Thank you, thank you..
Hayley - - #6721
What a fantastic day!! We had great fun with a very friendly and clearly extremely knowledgeable tutor. The environment that Lucy provides is perfect in her beautiful home with homemade cakes and cups of tea on tap! I was so pleased with the result of my day and would love to do a longer course next time to tackle a bigger project.
Gemma carr - - #6627
I found the day a real treat. Enjoyable, relaxing and lots to learn. Lovely food and good tuition. We all finished the day feeling we had really achieved something. I hope to return for another workshop.
Ruth - - #6243
Totally brilliant day at Lucy's house ! She was warm, friendly, interested in our projects, and so knowledgeable. I was amazed at how much we achieved in the day, supported by great food and regular tea and coffee. It really helped to have sewing machine skills, but Lucy was very helpful if people didn't.. I'd recommend this course to anyone interested in furniture.. thanks so much.
Hayley Miller - - #6235
Enjoyed a fantastic day on the course with Lucy in her beautiful home. As a complete beginner I had been a little nervous beforehand but Lucy was great- clear, calm and patient and there was a really relaxed atmosphere. There was also great food and endless drinks. I learnt a lot and feel really inspired. Lucy was very generous with her help, advice/ tips and her time and is clearly able to tailor her approach to the needs and level of each person in the group. She also made sure that even beginners like me came out with a product to be proud of. I would not hesitate to recommend Lucy's workshops.
Sally Newton - - #6224
