Course Start DatesThursday 13th February 2020
About the Course
Make your own small shoulder bag from leather with no stitching. Using only rivets and lacing techniques this is a great introduction to leatherwork.
You will be able to choose from a selection of Italian vegetable tanned leather and to emboss it with your name or other words to personalise it.
The bags are small shoulder style bags, made from hard vegetable tanned leather and are unlined. You can also make stitchless small leather goods - choose from a simple purse a card holder, a glasses case, a travel pouch, a phone case or a tablet case.
You will learn how to
* cut leather from a pattern using a scalpel
* hole punch leather
* leather lacing techniques
* set rivets and other fastenings
* emboss leather to personalise it with your name or initials
* use a variety of traditional leatherwork tools
Courses run from 10am to 1pm and from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.
Esther Keen has been a leather worker for over 10 years and studied bag design and construction at the London College of Fashion before going on to work in the industry as a leather worker and sample maker.
Each workshop has been thoughtfully designed to enable leather craft beginners and people who have a little experience with leather and sewing to hand make beautiful, functional leather bags, belts and shoes in just a few hours using simple techniques, and a few key leather work tools. I want to give people the skills and knowledge so that they can recreate what they've learnt at home.
Carefully sourced full grain vegetable tanned leather means that each piece handmade in a Leather Needle Thread workshop will be full of integrity and long lasting.

Ok, so I did have a little trouble finding the place but that's me. However, once there, with a welcoming cup of tea in hand, you can relax into a totally non-stressful and deeply creative morning. A workshop so ably and gently led by Esther, demonstrating; encouraging; and enabling all the time, 'till, before you know it, 3 hours have just flown by; final touches completed; everyone else's creations admired; photo the bag - and then the realization hits - "Wow, I made that !" Thank you Esther.

Response from Leather Needle Thread:What a lovely review!! Thank you so much Jonathan. It was really nice to meet you and I loved your bag!
Second time in a course from Esther and thoroughly enjoyed it again. Esther is a great teacher and explains everything so well. It’s a small group so you get plenty of time when you need support or advice. And you come away with a completed bag in three hours. If you are considering this workshop, definitely sign up. It’s a great introduction to working with leather. Thanks Esther and look forward to another course in 2020.

Response from Leather Needle Thread:Hi Toby,
What a wonderful way to spend a few hours - attended the half day no stitch bag course and loved every minute.
Esther is a fab teacher and very patient (when you um and ah over what colour combos) .
I learnt loads and came away with a little treasure that I keep swinging about in front of people - pleased as punch.
Will be back to learn more leather techniques.

Enjoyable and productive 3 hours. Good range of leather and 3 styles of bag we could choose from. Small group so plenty of individual help and Esther was excellent at trouble-shooting to help us make small changes or correct mistakes. We 6 each successfully made a unique bag. I love mine.

This is a very well organised course, that was really enjoyable.
Good selection of colours to choose from and Esther was on hand to guide us through all the stages, so that we all finished up with great leather bags. I was surprised and pleased with the finished item, and would recommend this course to anyone wanting to have a go at leatherwork.

This is a brilliant workshop! Working from Esther’s lovely studio we learnt how to create our very own stitchless leather bags. The hardest part was choosing which of the gorgeous leathers to use. I can highly recommend giving it a go.

What a great way to spend a morning with friends. Good designs to choose from and wide variety of coloured leathers. It was a well managed course with all of us completing our bags on time (with embossing too!) - and there was time for tea and delicious cake.

Hands down, by far, the BEST class I have been too!! Esther is amazingly talented and a brilliant teacher - class is well structured, clearly explained and fun! There are different bag designs and a beautiful range of leathers to choose from, which means everyone can make a bag which is unique to them. Lovely atmosphere - very friendly and relaxed. Highly recommended! Still smitten with my new bag! Thank you Esther

Really excellent course. You are given a choice of bag design and colour and then you get on with making them in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Esther gives clear and simple instructions and lots of one-to-one attention. It felt good for the soul to be making something with my hands and now I have a lovely bag that has already received compliments (just on my way home from the workshop!). I highly recommend it!
Stitchless Bags Workshop - - #6639
Absolutely brilliant course! Esther helped throughout the morning but also let us get stuck in and do our own thing. Really loved getting creative and properly using my hands to make something to be proud of. Also, excellent tea and cake at the venue we were at which was provided (and made a welcome break from mallet work!).
Can't stop looking at my lovely little bag, thank you again.
