This full-day intermediate workshop is suitable for anyone who has attended the beginners Silver Clay Taster or Introduction to Silver Clay Jewellery workshops, or has experience of working with metal clay.
On this workshop, taught by Edinburgh jeweller Anna Campbell, you will learn the traditional skill of soldering to advance your jewellery making skills in order to make different types of jewellery including stud earrings and cufflinks.
This is the perfect follow-on to the beginners workshops, and has been requested by our participants! It’s also the right workshop for you if you want to make jewellery to sell, or simply wish to make unique pieces for yourself, or as gifts for friends.
We will begin by designing and making stud earrings, cufflinks and a pendant out of silver clay. This part serves as a good recap on what you’ve learnt previously. We will spend the majority of our time focussing on the skill of soldering. You will learn:
◦ How to solder earring posts onto earrings to make studs
◦ How to solder silver cufflink backs onto your silver clay pieces
◦ How to solder a jump ring onto a pendant (instead of drilling a hole)
◦ Loads of practical hints and tips
We will cover two different types of soldering, talk about the equipment and materials you need (not much more than for working with silver clay), troubleshooting and more. You will have plenty of supervised practice, and by the end of the day you should have the confidence and skills you need to start making soldered silver clay jewellery at home.
Additional items will be available to buy from Anna on the day for those who want to get started straight away at home! And detailed notes of the workshop with all the information you need to remember to get going will be emailed to you afterwards.
Please note that The Arienas Collective experiences are run from a first-floor space and unfortunately we do not have lift access.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
The price includes all materials (including 10g of silver clay, a pair of sterling silver cufflinks, a pair of stud earrings and butterflies, which alone are worth over £30), refreshments and a buffet-style lunch. And of course you get to take home all the unique jewellery you create!
Workshop notes will be emailed to you after the workshop. Silver clay jewellery and soldering packs will be available to buy on the day from the artist should you wish to continue making at home.

Attended the silver clay soldering course with Anna on Sunday and had a blast. SO delighted with the pieces that I made- and that they actually look professional and good enough to give away as gifts. Anna was an extremely patient and attentive teacher and I was astonished at how willing she was to share her professional secrets with attendees- extremely generous. Lunch was fabulous- worth booking for that alone. Highly recommend this really chilled but incredibly creative day.
Response from The Arienas Collective:Hi Kirsty. Thank you so much for your lovely review. Your silver clay pieces looked amazing...good enough to sell I'd say ;-) I'm so glad you enjoyed the workshop and your time with us. We do aim for you to leave chilled as well as inspired, and proud of what you made, and it makes Anna and I very happy to hear that you did! We hope to welcome you back soon. Best wishes, Lynn :-)
Very enjoyable and informative day. Great teaching in an informal and relaxed setting which has given me the confidence to experiment with techniques at home .
Response from The Arienas Collective:Hello Aileen. Thanks so much for taking the time to leave us a review. I'm glad Anna has given you the confidence to continue experimenting with silver clay jewellery at home, and that you found the space relaxing - something we always try to achieve to encourage those creative juices to flow! Congratulations on the wonderful pieces you made. Hope to welcome you back sometime soon. Best wishes, Lynn
