Course Start DatesTuesday 25th February 2020
About the Course
Silver metal clay is an amazing material! Made from recycled silver, mixed with organic binders and moisture, it can be textured, shaped, cut and moulded like clay, but, when it's fired, it reverts to become 99.9% fine silver again. This means that you don't need any prior jewellery making or silversmithing skills to enjoy this media and make beautiful, fine silver jewellery pieces!
This is a friendly, relaxed and supportive workshop. With a strong emphasis on developing skills and learning good practice, you will spend a day making fine silver jewellery. You'll discover all you need to know to continue with the craft at home without the need for a kiln.
With regular demonstrations of technique, students will learn how to prepare their designs, making and refining 3 - 4 pieces before firing and polishing them to take home. Choose to create pendants, charms and/or earrings from your own ideas.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
The course fee includes 10g of silver clay, use of all tools and materials to make your project, sterling silver findings and unlimited refreshments. Free private parking on site.
If you are unable to make a published date, please get in touch as I'm always happy to run workshops on demand. No minimum number required and no extra cost.

I had a fabulous day on Jo's course and am thrilled with the earrings I made. She has a lovely well equipped workshop in a lovely setting. There were 4 of us in the group which is ideal for having one on one tuition but also having other creative people to bounce ideas around. Jo encouraged us to design our own pieces which makes it even more satisfying to see your finished jewellery. I wholeheartedly recommend this course although I would warn you - you will get hooked and want more!
Sue Todd - - #27438
Response from West Country Creative Ltd:Thanks Sue - your earrings are amazing!
I spent a brilliant day with Jo in her beautiful studio. She is an excellent intuitive teacher and lets you explore your own creativity. The small friendly group size of four meant we had lots of one to one tuition and we were also able to bounce ideas off each other. We all had very different ideas of what we wanted to produce, and under Jo’s careful guidance it was all achieved. Jo’s work is on display and is inspirational. She has an amazing array of equipment for use if needed. I am very chuffed with the pendant and earrings, I produced, and look forward to taking more courses.
Wendy Searle - - #27413
Response from West Country Creative Ltd:Wendy, thank you for your review - it would be great to see you again!
I've just had the most lovely day making silver clay jewellery with Jo! All four students on my course had very different ideas about what we wanted to make, and Jo made teaching/helping/guiding us to make our individual pieces look effortless!
We all had a great day, and were each delighted with the items we made; I highly recommend this workshop.
Sarah Barnes - - #27410
Response from West Country Creative Ltd:Many thanks Sarah. Please send me a pic of your finished necklace - I would love to see how you use your 'beads'.
Never heard of silver clay to make jewellery before so was fascinated to see how it was done and it turned out I really enjoyed the class on it. Jo is a wonderful teacher who helps you to design and make earrings and a pendant. Her demos were easy to follow and she gave very helpful advice to perfect my pieces. I spent a enjoyable and relaxing day making jewellery and would definitely go to more workshops run by Jo.
Kelly - - #23967
Had a lovely day. I love all sorts of crafts, but had never done any jewellery making before. Jo is wonderful, friendly and passionate about teaching people new skills. When I went home I had a pendant and matching stud earrings and a second small pendant.
I look forward to going again back sometime soon.
Kate Pledger - - #22716
Response from West Country Creative Ltd:Thank you for that, Kate! Your pieces were beautiful.
Absolutely brilliant day! I had no previous experience of jewellery making but left at the end of the day with matching earrings and pendant. Jo guided me through taking an image from my daughters wedding invitation to completion of the pieces, including what to do when you break it!! No hesitation in recommending this course and Jo's kind and patient tuition, not to mention all the tea and biscuits! Thank you Jo, I will be back Xx

This was a brilliant day out. Thoroughly enjoyed the course. Jo was great and helped me create a beautiful silver pendant and earrings. I've never done anything like this before so was more than happy with the outcome. I've had great comments too. Will certainly do another course when I come back down to the West country. Thank you Jo.

I attended a silver clay workshop with Jo at her beautiful location. Jo went through all I needed to know without over complicating the process. I made two amazing pendants with Jo’s guidance and can’t stop looking at what I achieved. If anyone was thinking of doing this workshop I can’t recommend it more highly than what Jo delivers and I will be booking in for another day in the future.

Jo is a very gifted and generous tutor. The day was spent learning and playing with her wide range of tools, moulds, cutters etc. She very patiently took us through all the beginner aspects of metal clay helping us each to realise our silver pieces. I came away with some lovely jewellery and buzzing for more knowledge. I will definately be returning for more workshops. Warmest thanx Txx
