About the Course
In this class you will learn the very basics of working with silver clay. The class is taught by Sian Hamilton. Sian is a Jeweller, Editor and Author, she is the Editor of Making Jewellery magazine and has written 7 books about jewellery making.
Silver clay is one of a range of metal clays. All metals clays are fine metal powder mixed with a binder to create malleable clay that can be moulded, textured, rolled and cut out. The clay is then dried and fired with a torch or a kiln to produce a solid piece of metal. Silver clay fires to hallmarkable fine silver; on the silver scale it is fine silver 999 (999 parts per 1000 pure silver – as a reference Sterling silver is 925).
This class is a great introduction to silver clay. You can create a pair of earrings or a pendant within the 2.5 hours allowed and have your own solid silver piece of jewellery at the end of the class!
Absolutely no experience is needed.
A 7g pack of silver clay is provided for the class, which is enough to make a pair of earrings or a pendant, and more if you work small. All tools are provided and a pair of earring hooks and a jumpring for the pendant. If you have time or wish to purchase more clay, there will be packs available to buy on the day.
The class is 2.5 hours long and usually held on a Thursday evening from 7-9.30pm. The classes are held at Kiln House Studios, Badshot Farm Lane, Badshot Lea, GU9 9HY. This is next to Squires Garden Centre on the edge of Aldershot.
Due to using a very hot torch, it is not a child friendly class. No under 16’s will be allowed to attend.
In order to run the class will need a minimum of 4 attendees. If the class doesn’t reach the minimum requirement, it may need to be cancelled and all fees will be refunded. The class maximum is 8, when all 8 places have been sold this class will show as out of stock.
Please get in touch via the contact form above for more dates and to book the class.
In December the price of the class rises to £52, this is because we give a 10g pack of clay so you have more to make Christmas presents with. If you would like to pay £45 and have the 7g pack please request this via email.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
All tools will be provided for this class and a 10g (or 7g if requested) pack of clay. Extra clay is available to purchase on the day. You will also get Sterling silver jumprings so you can go away wearing your finished piece of jewellery.
Tea, coffee and scrumptious biscuits will be provided.
Being a complete novices and lacking in real artistic skills I was keen to see if I would be able to produce something I could be happy with. I was not disappointed...I came away with a very unique pendant which I am very pleased with.
Sian's relaxed and easy instruction made this a very enjoyable experience and one which I certainly consider repeating in the future.

A great way to spend your evening learning something new. My fiance and I went along to learn about this material (its new to us) having found Sian to be a great local expert teach us about it. We came away having made several pieces from such a small quantity of silver clay. Sian was very knowledge and shared lots of pointers on how to get the most from our time with her. Lovely and informative short course well worth doing.

I can't think of a better way to spend an evening! Sian is a natural teacher and shares her considerable knowledge generously. I came away with a feeling of pride and satisfaction - and have already received compliments for the beautiful pendant that I made all by myself. I'm ready to sign up for Sian's next course.

What a great way to spend an evening, attending the silver clay tester class. Sian has a lovely manner, very informative and knowledgable, yet I never felt she was lecturing us. She was very happy to answer all the questions I put to her and spent time helping and advising us as we all made our pieces. There is something very pleasing about bringing home a couple of pendants that you have made yourself. Thanks you Sian
