In this class you will learn the very basics of working with silver clay. The class is taught by Sian Hamilton. Sian is a Jeweller, Editor and Author, she is the Editor of Making Jewellery magazine and has written 7 books about jewellery making.
Silver clay is one of a range of metal clays. All metals clays are fine metal powder mixed with a binder to create malleable clay that can be moulded, textured, rolled and cut out. The clay is then dried and fired with a torch or a kiln to produce a solid piece of metal. Silver clay fires to hallmarkable fine silver; on the silver scale it is fine silver 999 (999 parts per 1000 pure silver – as a reference Sterling silver is 925).
This class is a great introduction to silver clay. You can create a pair of earrings or a pendant within the 2 hours allowed and have your own solid silver piece of jewellery at the end of the class!
Absolutely no experience is needed.
A 7g pack of silver clay is provided for the class, which is enough to make a pair of earrings or a pendant, and more if you work small. All tools are provided and a pair of earring hooks and a jumpring for the pendant. If you have time or wish to purchase more clay, there will be packs available to buy on the day.
The class is 2 hours long and usually held on a Thursday evening from 7-9pm. The classes are held at Kiln House Studios, Badshot Farm Lane, Badshot Lea, GU9 9HY. This is next to Squires Garden Centre on the edge of Aldershot.
Due to using a very hot torch, it is not a child friendly class. No under 16’s will be allowed to attend.
In order to run the class will need a minimum of 4 attendees. If the class doesn’t reach the minimum requirement, it may need to be cancelled and all fees will be refunded. The class maximum is 8, when all 8 places have been sold this class will show as out of stock.
Please get in touch via the contact form above for more dates and to book the class.
