This is an introduction to the basics of screen printing on fabric using hand cut stencils, producing printed small to medium sized textile artworks using 1-3 base colours and the colour mixes achievable through over-printing techniques.
The course is led by an experienced teacher and maker. Our objectives are to demystify the screen printing process, providing the participant with a thorough understanding of the principles and techniques of screen printing on fabric and enough knowledge and confidence to continue to develop their skills independently.
Each participant will design and cut stencils to produce a final print or prints that can stand as an artwork in itself or, at a later date, be incorporated into a wide variety of handmade craft projects, such as cushion covers, bags, garments etc. This makes screen printing a valuable skill for any designer maker who deals with textiles, surface pattern etc., and an exciting and immediate skill for those new to printmaking.
The course is suitable for the more experienced craftsperson / maker /artist wanting to learn a new skill or for the absolute beginner.

A friend and I had the most enjoyable day with Liz. Her skill made sure that not only did we learn , but went home with prints that we really liked.
The lunch was very good too.
Liz is a great teacher and I would certainly recommend this course to anyone who wanted to find out more about screen printing.
Myself and a friend went on this course this week and we had such a good time. Liz is so friendly and helpful - we were both thrilled with what we managed to achieve - and the conversation and lunch were good too.
I recommend this course as Liz explained everything and even as beginners it was a fun day, if you have never tried printing before, try this one.
Excellent overall
This was a fabulous course. I learnt so much from Liz. She's a fine teacher - approachable, hugely knowledgeable, and hands-on. I didn't know anything about screen printing before the day, and I came home with great results. I'm hooked and have now ordered some equipment to try printing at home.
Liz Ryan was a great teacher and the course was fab. Liz supported us via email in designing an image suitable for the screen printing process before we arrived. When we arrived in the inspirational space full of colour and ideas, she gave lots of support throughout the process; along with tips and suggestions for further experimenting.
I have since bought my own screen printing kit to try some more at home. Thanks Liz! Lovely lunch too!
I really loved this screen printing course. I am creative but had never tried screen printing and Liz made it easy to learn. She guides you through the whole process with loads of patience! She is really warm and friendly and makes you feel relaxed from start to finish. There seems to be nothing that Liz doesn’t know about printing and I came away with prints that I was super pleased with. I couldn’t recommend this course more highly it suits complete beginners or the more experienced creatives. I am going to book another one later in the year so I can do more prints, screen printing is pretty addictive!
I would thoroughly recommend this course. Having never tried screen printing before the day with Liz was a wonderful introduction. She was a lovely host and really looked after us, provided a delicious lunch and most importantly making sure we left with prints we love. I would go again in an instant.
All in all Liz was amazing. She was a very gracious host who would do anything for us and felt more like a friend than a teacher and we learnt so much. If you're thinking about doing a screen printing course, this is the one!
Had this day course booked for us as a Christmas present as we had been on about screen printing for a while. Got all the kit too but didn't know how to use it yet.
Liz was amazing, she would talk us through any questions we had, (personal or professional) and there wasn't a sense of trying to rush us.
The first part of the day was us really just getting to know each other and seeing what other people had done, techniques used (and meeting the dog). Liz had already put all of the work in to get the designs ready for us to cut out and after we started she never stopped running around after us, cleaning brushes, mixing paints, preparing screens, we really got the sense that she was going above and beyond for us.
Lunch was really good as Michelle has a gluten intolerance, this was catered to and we sat and chatted.
We printed on t-shirts we had brought with us, of which we managed to make 4 of with differing designs with the help and suggestions of Liz. Then she also gave us bits of fabric to play around with techniques we wanted to try, and honestly some of our tests came out better than our original designs!
This course is very informative, fun and great value for money! I booked this course having never screen printed before and have come away from it inspired to get my own screen printing tools to carry on experimenting at home. Liz goes above and beyond to make sure you get the most out of the course with lots of one on one guidance and advice. I would highly recommend to anyone.
