Pattern Cutting and Drafting: Methods of Creating Fullness (weekdays) - Nottingham Trent University

X

Description

This course will provide you with the techniques required for creating fullness in your garments, producing new shapes and silhouettes from a body block that you have already created. It’s suitable for people who are interested in further developing their skills in womenswear, and is ideal if you have completed the Pattern Drafting and Cutting for Beginners course or have a sewing background and have used commercial or shop-bought patterns. This course will start by refreshing your knowledge of how to take measurements correctly and how to draft pattern pieces from a block. There will also be a reminder about fabric lay planning, fabric marking and cutting, and toile assembly and fitting. You will then move quickly on to learning how to create fullness. On this course, you will: • be introduced to knife pleating, box pleating, godets and gores • create different waistband shapes • develop a puff sleeve, flounce cuffed sleeve and capped sleeve • create circular cut pattern pieces for skirts, peplums, sleeve cuff and frills. You’ll be introduced to these techniques through group demonstrations, fittings, paired activities and technical workshop activities. What will you gain? By the end of the course, you will have consolidated the skills from the previous beginner’s course, and learnt how to creating fullness in your next projects. Level: Intermediate Entry requirements: You must have prior knowledge of the drafting process, and have a basic close-fit body block to bring with you. Where you'll learn: You will be based in the Bonington building at the City Campus, our dedicated art and design hub. You will have access to an excellent range of facilities and equipment in the fashion studios, with industry-standard pattern cutting tables, professional mannequins and garment production machinery from domestic sewing machines to overlockers and button-hole machinery. You’ll also have access to our library to use outside of your short course; whilst you can’t reserve or take away books, you are welcome to use them as a resource for research and referencing.
