Marquetry inlay design course

On the Marquetry day course we will be using the Double Bevel techniques to achieve our perfect fit design. We use a carbon paper sheet to transfer the outline of your design onto the wood then we use the scroll saw to cut all the lines etc. We usually have 4 design patterns for you to choose from including "The Bird" as shown on this page. At the end of the day we glue your design to some MDF so that you can take home your work and maybe frame it later and add another coat of Danish oil as desired. We mainly use walnut for the background and usually a lighter wood for the design.

My love of woodcraft was due to a meeting with a guitarist friend who had made an acoustic guitar. We talked about his guitar for many hours and I thought it would be a challenge for me to have a go! Well that was 6 years ago and now in 2021 I am in a small workshop in Stoke where I build various instruments. The Strumstick instrument build is a great way to get to grips with fine woodworking and is an ideal step towards acoustic guitar building. No experience in woodwork is needed.
