About the Course

Make your very own leather belt bag.
Our leather craft workshop days are designed to be all about you…. getting hands on and making your very own belt bag from a selection of our premium grade leathers and colours.

This is a great 'all skills' workshop as you'll be making side gussets to create depth, saddle stitching, working with and setting hardware and don't forget the making of the belt. All of these techniques will really set you up in making a wide range of leather goods by understanding the making construction and design, and as we've had lots of enquiries about a belt bag workshop we thought it about time to create a workshop for you.

On our workshops we do not operate with pre-cut leather templates, but we do have suggested largest sizes for each style of bag and this is to ensure you will have enough time on your workshop day to actually complete your leather project.

You can book your workshop day on our website.

Approx sizes of the green leather bag shown are 20cms wide, 12cms high, 5cms deep which easily fits a phone, keys, wallet or small purse. A great way of carrying your essentials around town, for active days and festivals. For extra security you can also place the belt buckle so that it is inside the bag.

Having worked in the industry for over ten years, leather craft workshop days are brand new to London and started in November 2017. The are geared up for people with some or no experience of working with vegetable or chrome tanned leathers of various thicknesses (depending on the course you choose). Classes are kept to a maximum of 3 people for our belt bag workshop.
Please have a look at our website homepage, testimonials feedback, our website reviews section, our Instagram and Facebook page and our makers gallery page which is updated weekly.
This workshop course is also a great introduction if you work with fabrics and want to know more about working with and combining leather with your materials, bags etc.

We also provide you with an info pack giving details on where you can buy your own leathers, tools and hardware if you wished to take your new skills forward at your own pace.

You’ll be fully guided throughout your session by our commercial Leathersmith, Richard Williamson the founder of RW Works. You'll be shown all about the various traditional leather working hand tools you’ll be using and encouraged to first practice using the various hand tools on off-cuts of leather to build your familiarity and confidence.

There is nothing better than the feeling of making your very own leather goods that you’ll love to use and last you for decades, ageing uniquely over the years.

You’ll be shown how to cut, mark and chisel punch your stitching holes, burnish your edges, set any hardware, wax your thread, and finally hand stitch your item using a traditional Saddle Stitch for strength, one length of thread with a needle at each end.

Don't worry at all if you're unfamiliar with the terminology as you'll be given a demo of each stage, and encouraged to practice on leather off-cuts.

Note that this is a day of making requiring lots of concentration at each stage of creating your very own unique bag and we hope it encourages you to get into working with leather and making many more leather goods.

We look forward to seeing you on the day and if you can arrive 5 minutes prior to your course start time, that would be perfect.

Parking is free in our road and surrounding roads. The nearest public transport is Hanwell Railway Station (8 minutes walk) and 12 minutes ride from Paddington Station. Or nearest tube is Boston Manor or Ealing Broadway Stations.

Note: the closure hardware options are snap closure, sam browne closure, magnet closure or buckle closure. We also have a range of leather colours predominantly black and brown tans and some other colours. If you have a specific colour in mind please email prior to booking.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

Fabulous day spent with an amazing craftsperson. Richard was very thorough with all the different aspects of working with leather. He is a very patient and attentive tutor, I was quite nervous about making mistakes but was reassured all along the way. I absolutely love my new belt bag and hope to make some accessories to go with it one day. I intend to enrol on one of the two day courses in the near future to gain even more skills from the master craftsman. Thank you for the wonderful experience, highly recommended!
