Opening 25 Aug. 2-metre distancing and smaller groups.
Lakeland landscape: Enjoy the stunning views of the Kentmere valley and capture the natural beauty of the landscape. The day will combine practical painting and drawing exercises in the art studio with opportunities to work directly outdoors focusing on fells and skies. A great opportunity to develop your watercolour painting skills and explore a variety of mixed media techniques.
During the course you will look at ways to combine drawing with watercolour to create marks, texture and colour in your landscape paintings. The day will start indoors developing skills with some warm up exercises and then we will go outdoors to work directly from observation.
The emphasis is very much on practical individual experience. Karen Lester will guide and support you throughout the day using demonstrations, discussions, and example work. Karen enjoys working with a range of painting and drawing media including printmaking, sometimes combining these to create mixed media images. Each type of medium brings its own exciting possibilities and unique qualities, something she continually explores. Her studio base is in the South Lake District, an area where she can spend time immersed in the landscape, a source of endless inspiration. Her work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the North West over the last 25 years and she has been involved with projects including Printfest, C-Art and Go Herdwick.
Karen is an experienced qualified teacher and has been teaching in the adult education sector since 2011
This workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a converted Lakeland barn on our traditional family Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley.
All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience. Whilst this is a relatively new venture, George, who set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education.

Stunning venue in the Kentmere valley. We were warmly welcomed and shown great hospitality by the owner, George Grange. George's soups and cakes are brilliant.
The watercolour course was run by Karen Lester who has the talent and skill to put everyone at their ease and help all of us, regardless of ability, learn new techniques and approaches to watercolour.
