Course Start DatesFriday 27th March 2020
About the Course
Learn to make your own beautiful fine silver jewellery from art clay silver - no previous experience is necessary.
Silver clay is one of a range of metal clays. All metals clays are fine metal powder mixed with a binder to create malleable clay that can be moulded, textured, rolled and cut out. The clay is then dried before being fired with a torch (which can be done using an inexpensive torch at home) or with a kiln to produce a solid piece of metal. We will be demonstrating firing with a torch so you know what you can achieve in a home environment.
Silver clay when fired, results in 99.9% fine silver pieces, which you can send for hall-marking at a UK assay office if you wanted to as it is fine enough silver to do so.
Maximum number on workshop is 4 people - larger groups can be accomodated in a Workshop arranged specifically for you on a mutually agreeable date. Private lessons are also available - please enquire for availability (many Saturdays are booked well in advance but please do enquire. Sundays and weekdays are also available for bookings).
This class is suitable for adults only please.
You will learn how to roll & cut precious metal clays, add textures, layering, drying and torch-firing, finishing pre and post firing including burnishing, polishing and adding a patina to the surface of the silver.
Price includes one 10g pack of silver art clay (Silver Art Clay pack is currently worth £21).
One pack of clay is enough to make a pendant or earrings, or 2 small pairs of earrings, or 4 bracelet or phone charms or buttons.
If you have a design in mind, I will be very happy to help you before the course to make sure you have a suitable design, the right amount of silver art clay, and appropriate findings to finish your pieces of jewellery.
A small selection of jewellery findings (e.g jump-rings, earring wires, and cord for pendants) will also be included so you can take home fully finished pieces - you may want to change these at home for different findings which are more suited to your finished jewellery as the findings supplied are simply to allow you to wear your jewellery pieces straight away.
You may wish to bring a craft apron and/or to wear clothes suitable for craft activities.

I thoroughly enjoyed the beginners silver clay workshop, Sally is an excellent tutor, and a fountain of knowledge which she was more than happy to share. The day was fun with a relaxed environment. I can't recommend this course highly enough, for anyone looking for a new craft don’t look any further. A great fun day, I will definitely be booking another course. 😊

A fantastic course! Pitched at beginners, which was perfect for me, yet we learnt loads in just one day and came away with our pieces of jewellery that we had made. Plenty of extra information to allow you to go away and continue to gain experience. I will definitely be coming back for other courses soon!

As a fan of all kinds of crafts, I received the beginners silver clay workshop course as birthday present. It was an excellent day and the perfect present idea. The class was small, Sally was an excellent and enthusiastic tutor and silver clay a fantastic medium allowing us to create all kinds of beautiful and varied pieces. Everyone left at the end of the day very proud of their finished work and with lots of top money saving tips on how to continue to use silver clay.
Definitely one of the best crafting courses I have attended. Highly recommended.

Thrilling day spent in a small group full of motivation and with all the help and support from our great teacher, Sally. Making my first piece of jewellery (a pendant) starting from scratch... a lot accomplished in just 1 day. Won't be my last jewellery creation for sure. Eager to any upcoming courses with Sally. This is just the beginning of a great new hobby!
Eduardo - - #23880
Today I had a wonderful day learning to work with silver clay.
I did not have any expectations as I hadn't done anything like this before. Sally was fab and supported me in coming up with my very own design for a necklace pendant.
I even managed to come out with a small pair of earrings too as I had more than enough clay.
Excellent day, great value for money. I would thoroughly recommend and will be returning.
Sash - - #23879
Really good introduction to learning to use silver clay! Sally was very attentive to each of us and I came away with a lovely matching set of a pendant and earrings which was a wonderful souvenir of a wonderful day :) she also had lots of tips and tricks for someone wanting to start doing it for themselves with cheaper alternatives to marketed silver clay tools which can be quite pricey! All in all an amazing day and a good introduction to the wonder that is silver clay!
Bekki - - #23739
I loved this course. I made something that I'm excited to wear and I'm fired up ready for the next level. I hope for a course soon. Sally is passionate about the subject and it rubs off. We were all nervous about messing it up but were soon put at ease and we all made amazing items.
Thank you Sally for making it so easy and much less scary at home to continue,..
donna - - #23193
What a fantastic day! I had never even heard of, let alone used, silver clay before booking onto this course. Sally packed a huge amount into the day, and I feel a lot more knowledgeable and have picked up a new skill and taken home some beautiful earrings as well. And into the bargain she's a lovely, friendly and approachable tutor as well - even when dealing with someone as stressy as me!
Gemma Lang - - #23186
I couldn't believe at the start of day when Sally showed us examples of pieces we could do that a beginner could achieve it. But we did! The day was amazing; good company and Sally was happy to help and answer all our questions, guiding us to make our finished pieces.
I would recommend this to anyone interested in silver clay and will be looking at further courses run by Sally in the future.
Margaret Thurlow - - #22594
Wow! What a great day, I learnt loads. Sally was really lovely, she let us go our own way with loads of encouragement. Will definitely go again to learn more, it's great to have someone that knows how to point you in the right direction, also very patient. Thanks Sally you're a star....
Caroline Kellett - - #22592
Do you really expect me to believe that this flimsy piece of clay will turn into a solid piece of silver?
Are you suggesting that even though I'm a complete beginner I'll produce a piece of jewellery that I can wear at the end of just one day?
Are you seriously saying that the cost of the tuition, tools, venue, silver, and all the biscuits are included in the fee?
Yes ! Yes ! Yes !
What a totally magical day - thank you Sally - (am hoping to come again soon - 'cos I still can't quite believe what happened...!)
Cheri Lea - - #21930
Just had a great day doing silver clay jewellery and am very chuffed with what I managed to do (even if I did go for the more challenging things!). I got my partner to photo 'my treasures' so that I can brag about them to my friends - I'm right proud of myself! Now planning to do some more and hopefully make some pieces worthy of Xmas gifts.
As a person with a disability, I would especially like to thank Sally for all her help and the amount of work she put into it so that I could join in seamlessly, she's very thoughtful and inclusive. Thanks for making it possible and I would encourage anyone to give it a go. I will certainly be back for another craft venture at some stage.
Kip - - #21921
Just attended the course on 23rd March. Brilliant is all I can say. Sally is very patient takes you step by step on what you are doing. I cam away with a pair of earrings that nobody else will have. Wonderful session with a lovely group of ladies.
Thank you Sally
Wendy - - #21024
Response from Craft Workshops:Thank You Wendy. I love that everyone starts off with the same amount of silver art clay and everyone leaves with pieces of jewellery which are unique. The variety of ideas never ceases to amaze me!
What a brilliant course with a lovely group of ladies. I had a fantastic day, thoroughly enjoyed myself and came away with three pairs of small earrings and a beautiful leaf pendant to replace one that had tarnished. Sally is so patient, helpful and encouraging. What a talented lady and incredibly brave to let us loose with a blow torch!
Liz Atyeo - - #20906
Response from Craft Workshops:Thank You Liz. You did really well making the earrings and replacement leaf pendant. I have nerves of steel (or should that be silver?!) :)
Just attended Sally’s last beginners class, superb, she walked us through step by step and as a result I have come away with a unique pair of earrings.
Gillian Keniston-Goble - - #20846
Response from Craft Workshops:Thank You Gillian, lovely review and great to meet you.
Great one day workshop which was really hands-on and I was able to go home with 2 lovely pairs of silver earrings. Sally is very helpful and an excellent communicator and the whole day just flew by. Would definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants to have a go at using silver art clay.
Elisa - - #20039
Response from Craft Workshops:Thank you for your review Elisa - your earrings were amazing and I am really pleased you love them! I hope to see you again soon.
A fantastic day spent under Sally’s expert tuition on the Silver Clay Jewellery Workshop. Sally is extremely knowledgeable and friendly and made the day a fun and rewarding experience. It was amazing to be part of the ‘magic’ that unfolded over the course of the day and wear jewellery home that I had made. Very satisfying indeed and can’t wait to get kitted out to create more jewellery at home (Sally offers great advice on how to keep costs to a minimum). Go and experience the magic for yourself, you’ll have a great day!
Beccy Christmas - - #20004
Response from Craft Workshops:Thank you for your review Beccy - I am so glad you enjoyed your day and are going to do more silver art clay making at home. It really is magic isn't it?! :)
Excellent day. Sally is very friendly and has so many tips and hints to share in addition to the structure that ensures everyone makes something to be proud of. She offers so many ideas of how to set up cheaply at home without spending on specialist equipment. She also has boxes full of stuff to have a go with, so things were covered that wont always be offered on a beginners day. Also loads of different polishes and equipment that again often dont get hands on experience with. Def feel i can continue with this with what i learnt.
lyn - - #19008
Response from Craft Workshops:Thank you for your review of the workshop Lyn - it was a action-packed day and I am really glad you enjoyed it as well as feeling you learnt lots to implement at home.
This workshop is a great opportunity to learn all the basics to produce your first piece of silver clay jewellery. Sally is an encouraging and knowledgeable tutor who explains each step of the process in a clear way. The length of the workshop and small class size allows time to learn and make without feeling rushed. Good value for money and great fun. Come on your own or with a friend to enjoy a relaxed yet productive day.
Kathryn Mansfield - - #18079
The beginners silver clay workshop was a great introduction to get me started using metal clay. Sally was great at answering questions about the possibilities when using the silver clay and was really good at creating a fun and friendly environment. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who has thought of using this medium but isn’t sure where to start. A fun day that was really great value.
