Sadly I'm shut due to Covid and shielding but do drop me a line to say hello, place an order or ask any weaving questions. Hopefully see you soon.
Have a go at weaving and experiment with texture and colour in the form of making a piece of cloth. Weaving is a meditative and therapeutic craft. You can never go wrong! You can start weaving with something in mind or just see where the mood takes you. I have plenty of natural fibres on hand in all colours and textures.
There is no need to tackle warps or complicated set ups. I will have the Saori loom already for you. You will learn the basics of how this Japanese loom works and then spend most of the time creating a unique piece to take home.
You will understand the difference between warp and weft, how to wind on a bobbin and basic weaving terminology. But most of all you will enjoy the rhythm and peace of weaving. I’m someone who does not have the skill or ability to paint but I can express my creativity through weaving so don’t be scared to have a go. It is a very meditative process and you can get truly lost for hours, forgetting everything else! Don’t feel you have to come with ideas - you can just go with how you feel on the day.
There is a maximum of 2 looms, so you are guaranteed individual attention when needed.
10-15 minutes introduction and loom basics with demo
and the rest is over to you to weave! I’ll be on hand at all times for questions and help.
You will be working in the Island Hall, a sustainable, award winning building. It is warm, light and comfortable with level access through out including toilets. It is a truly beautiful place to weave. Looms can be taken just outside on the slate veranda in fine weather but not to the beach (sand does not agree with loom parts!)
Thank you to the Isles of Scilly Voucher Scheme, funded by ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) for all their support in making this happen.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Open to children aged 8 or over but they must be accompanied by an adult
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Boats run from all the other islands. From the quay turn left past the Turks Head pub. Walk for just under 10 minutes to the phone box, turn right, keep on this road for about 5 minutes until you see a large hall, set on its own. The front is an old Wesleyan Chapel. There should be a notice outside (unless it has blown over). You are here!
What can I bring to the event?
Please bring a pair of socks as you can not weave with shoes on!
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
All materials are included - I have a wide range of natural fibres including recycled fabric, silk, cotton, wool, linen and alpaca. Feel free to bring anything you'd like to add to your weaving eg. scraps of special yarn or material, your own fibre, etc.

I thoroughly enjoyed my two-hour session with Trish on St Agnes and made a stunning piece of fabric which I’ll be using to make two small cushions once I’ve moved house.
Trish gave excellent tuition and I had free reign of her huge selection of yarns, making a much bigger piece of woven fabric than I’d thought possible.
Response from Twisted Bobbins:Thanks Kathy for taking the time to review. Your weaving was so inspiring - I can still picture those lovely colours in my mind - perfect match for how St. Agnes was when you were weaving! Hopefully see you again next year!
Absolutely brilliant afternoon spent at Twisted Bobbins with Trish and very recommendable for anyone that wants to try something a little different. The environment itself within the workshop is inspirational with a whole variety of colours and materials to weave. I had never used a loom or weaved before but Trish actively encouraged me to use whatever colours or fabrics I liked whilst offering suggestions and ideas. With the hard work of setting up already done you can get straight into weaving and it was surprising how quickly you learn and gain confidence. Trish is great at teaching, answers all your questions and shares lots of information - she is never far away! I was absolutely delighted with my woven cloth from the workshop and plan to make a bag from it over the next few months. The whole experience was incredibly relaxing and yet skills were learnt. I would definitely go back again and try even more ideas out. I travelled from St. Mary's for the day so had a bonus of exploring St. Agnes too. Thanks Trish
Response from Twisted Bobbins:Thanks Sue - you were such a perfect student so made my work very easy!! Your weaving was beautiful and such neat selvedges! Hope this is the start of your weaving journey. Thanks for taking the time to write the review -it means so much as I'm such a small business. See you again hopefully.
