Course Start DatesSaturday 7th March 2020
About the Course
BENCHspace is a fully equipped silversmithing and jewellery workshop.
We offer one-off taster sessions on our 'Silver Saturdays', to make silver rings and bangles for absolute beginners. There is a choice of three different types of ring to make and three different types of bangle to make on different dates and the details of these are available on our website.
So in theory, you can come six times and make a different piece of jewellery each time!
In this session, we offer you the opportunity to come and make a textured hammered and/ or stamped sterling silver ring in our 3 hour taster session. This session runs on the first Saturday in every month and eight spaces are available on each session.
You will learn to texture metal using a variety of different hammers and use the metal stamping tools if you would like to explore putting text, numbers or symbols on the inside or outside of your ring. You can have a secret message on the inside of your ring that only you will see or you can have it as part of the design of your ring if put on the outside. Many people have both these techniques on their ring or just one. You get a variety of silver profiles to choose from, so that everyone ends up with a completely different shaped and uniquely personal ring.
What else can you do in 3 hours that will last a lifetime?
How will you make yours?
You can come by yourself or with friends to make a personalised and unique piece of silver jewellery to wear home straight away or to give as a special gift. We have small classes so that everyone has the support to make their own jewellery to a professional finish, using traditional hand tools to hammer, cut, solder (using gas torches), file and polish. Many people come by themselves as they have always fancied having a go at something different or persuade a friend or two to try it with them.
We often have a close group of friends coming together to mark a special birthday or special occasion (Hen-do, Bridal party, Mother’s Day, family get-together, 50th Birthday, Silver Anniversary, Engagement place-holder rings or just for something different to do together or for yourself on a Saturday morning.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
Light refreshments are available throughout the session (tea, coffee and biscuits). All materials are included in the price, you just need to bring yourself.
I attended a hammered ring workshop with Karen. The session was for around 3 hours and thoroughly enjoyable. Just the right amount of tuition and support to allow you to make a fantastic hammered ring. I was so thrilled to walk away wearing a ring I had made and couldn't stop showing it off. Karen was very patient and gave clear instructions throughout the session. She clearly has a high level of expertise and experience and her passion for silversmithing is evident. Would 100% recomend this course.
