More than just a sewing course!
Free motion/hand machine embroidery is a simple technique that can open up your sewing creativity.
I will show you the basics of setting up your machine and how to use varying tensions to create different effects. Learn about thread sizes, needle sizes, thread feeding and how this affects your results. Experiment with interfacing and hoop work and develop your own way of working.
Y Ffatri (The Factory) - Is our converted water mill where the workshop takes place. It's set in a beautiful valley next to the river Aled in Conwy county, North Wales. Weather permitting, lunch will be in the stunning garden, where you can also take a woodland walk along the river for inspiration. If the weather is bad then the log burning stove will keep us cosy as we munch, chat and stitch our way through the day.
I aim to give a complete experience. You will leave feeling spoilt and relaxed, having learned a new skill, and with your own creation to take home.
You will create an applique panel of your own design which can be applied to many formats - tote bag - cushion cover - framed artwork. This may be achievable on the day, but if not I can complete the project for you and post it out for an extra fee.
You will need to bring your own sewing machine, with a feed dog drop facility or plate to cover the feed dogs, and bring an embroidery foot or a quilting slide foot, otherwise all materials will be provided.
You can book instantly or through my website.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
All materials and tools are provided, including fabric and thread.
Bring your own machine as above - with instruction manual.
Refreshments are included throughout the day, including homemade cake and a wholesome lunch.
Parking is available.

The course was great. 3 of us attended and we all really enjoyed it. We learned how to set our machines up for free motion embroidery and practiced the technique in the morning.
Catherine was a friendly, informative and hands on teacher. Her own beautiful work was available for inspiration together with a selection of books on textiles and a selection of fabrics. By the afternoon we had each decided upon a design and chosen to make either a framed picture, a cushion or a tote bag. We were given guidance on how to place our designs using Bondaweb before commencing the free motion embroidery ourselves. Course notes and some templates were provided.
The setting and studio are beautiful and the hospitality warm and inviting. A delicious lunch was provided plus home baked lemon drizzle cake in the afternoon. What’s not to love??!! We’ll definitely be be back.
Response from Flossie and Twts:Thank you so much ☺️-It was an absolute pleasure Ann, and I’d love you all to come back. Cake appreciation is always good too x
