About the Course
During this 3.5 hours workshop you will make your own machine-embroidered picture. You will learn how to create a decorative picture using a range of embroidery techniques. You can work from your own chosen theme e.g flowers, leaves, birds or I can help you decide what you'd like to do on the day. You work on your piece using a wooden embroidery hoop which will also be used to frame your finished work.
Some experience is advised for this class, although beginners are also welcome.
The class includes a choice of plain and patterned fabrics and embellishments from my stash (you can also bring your), a wooden embroidery hoop and refreshments (drinks and homemade cake). You might like to bring a packed lunch as we will be working over lunchtime. You will need to bring your own sewing machine and threads and an embroidery foot. You will need to be able to lower/cover the feed dog on sewing machine for this class.
My studio is located in my garden (complete with free ranging chickens) in Buntingford, Hertfordshire. Class sizes are small (maximum 4 people), so you will get lots of help and one to one attention in a friendly, relaxed environment.
This class is also bookable on demand as a one-to-one or group session (maximum 4 people). Please contact me to book a date or if you require further information.

Sue Nicolls is a lovely lady and the course was just brilliant. It was informal, in a lovely setting and very informative. I learnt the basics of machine embroidery plus, I feel, some more intermediate techniques - certainly enough for me to now practice and experiment on my own. Apart from the practical elements, I also learnt about the sewing machine attachments/set up, threads, fabrics, equipment etc needed for machine embroidery with advice on where to purchase them from. I was very pleased with the work that I produced - Sue's help & guidance has given me confidence to expand on what I learnt. She certainly is one talented lady as her log cabin is full of her very creative and stunning pieces; and work in progress. It was also good to discuss a subject we are both very passionate about. I would certainly recommend Sue and her course/s. Her husband makes very good tea too!

Response from Sue Nicholls Designs:What a lovely review, thank you. It was a pleasure to teach you
This was my fourth session with Sue and the opportunity to try something new. As always Sue's clear explanations and demonstrations gave me the confidence to tackle new materials and techniques. To come away with a completed wreath was a real sense of achievement and the fact that my friend and I chose completely different styles is a further tribute to Sue.
If you want to escape for a few hours of creativity this is the course to try!

Anyone who loves sewing and crafty things will fall in love with Sue's studio and all the bits and bobs she has there - let alone the marvellous display of her creative skills. And as for the course - it was fantastic. Sue is a great teacher - clear in her instructions and so patient and ready to help with advice. Through her I managed to overcome my fear of free motion machine embroidery and produce a lovely wreath which is proudly hanging in my sewing room prior to be on display for Christmas. We have already signed up to another course in January and if you live in the Buntingford area in Hertfordshire and want to increase your craft skills then I urge you to get in touch with Sue and you will have a great, creative time.
