About the Course
What to expect:
Join me and learn how to create a beautiful piece of felt. Using wet felting techniques you will have the opportunity to experiment with silkily soft merino wool fibres, play with colours and shapes and learn how to craft a lovely woolly piece of fabric that you can take home to use as a wall hanging, a framed piece of art, or to use as a piece of fabric to sew any item you can think of.
The workshop runs from 1.00pm to 4.00pm(ish). If you need leave at precisely 4.00pm please let me know at the start of the session
What to bring:
All necessary materials will be provided. It would be useful to bring a clean towel and a plastic bag though, as your piece of felt is unlikely to be dry by the time you are leaving.
What will you take away with you:
A lovely, tactile piece of felt. Designed and created by yourself. Note: It’s likely to still be damp, so bringing a clean tea towel and a plastic bag is a good idea.
None at all. This is a beginners workshop and no previous experience of felt making or working with wool fibres is necessary at all.
Number of places:
There are 7 spaces available for each course. With such a small number of us, everyone will get plenty of one-to-one time and have the opportunity to ask any questions or queries as they come up.
Access to venue:
The workshop room that we'll be using for the afternoon is up a flight of stairs and I'm afraid there is no lift. Feel free to contact me if you need further information or specific details.
Booking your place:
To book a place on one of my workshops, please send me an email via the link above with your name, which workshop you would like to attend and your email address.

If there is anything that you’d like to ask, please don’t hesitate to contact me by phone or email.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
All the tools and materials needed to create one beautiful piece of felt will be included. Tea, coffee, cordial and biscuits will also be provided.
A small library of images will be available to look through on the day to use as inspiration, or a rough starting point. Alternatively, if you’d like to bring an image to use as inspiration, you’re more than welcome to do so. Please note that this is a beginners class, and we will only be working in relatively simple shapes at this stage.
Further to this, all attendees will be offered a 10% discount at the venue shop; the fantastic Knit and Stitch York.
There is no parking at this venue. The nearest car park is the Shambles Q-Park, a 4 minute walk away. If you are coming to York via train, the station is about 15 minute walk away or a 10 minute taxi ride.
This exceeded all my expectations.
With no felting experience I was delighted that we just launched straight in, it was hands on within five minutes of entering the room.
I attended on my own so was quite nervous but Kat was Uber friendly - feels like you’re meeting a friend you haven’t seen for years. The ladies in the group were great too.
There was a lot of stimulus ideas and not being a creative person I worried. But wet felting is very forgiving and Kat showed and taught us loads of techniques. I wanted to create abstract and others created pictures - anything goes and everyone’s turned out brilliantly.
Wet felting was a very soothing and chilled activity and is a perfect wind down after a busy week at work!
Thanks Kat it was AMAZING!

The felt making course was really brilliant. I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon. Kat has so much patience and gave loads of invaluable advice throughout the afternoon and I walked out with a really lovely picture. It was a really relaxed atmosphere with a group of nice people who all enjoyed the afternoon and everyone left with a "masterpiece". I will definitely attend another of these courses.

It was a very enjoyable session. I have made felt before but not in this way. It was good to learn a new technique. I shall certainly have a go at making more felt and might like to attend another course.

As a complete beginner to the crafty side of life, I was a little apprehensive about what would be involved but Kat put me instantly at ease and was extremely supportive and encouraging. I have never known 3 hours pass so quickly! It was a thoroughly enjoyable fun and interesting afternoon and I came away with a piece of unique piece of artwork for my wall! Kat's enthusiasm has inspired me to try other courses and I may well do another felt course as it was such a fascinating process watching the felt develop from strands of wool to a solid piece of material. Thank you Kat for encouraging me on my craft adventures!

That was 3 hours of sheer enjoyment for me. Excellent instructions, lovely refreshments and a result to be proud of. I've had my picture framed and am looking around for a suitable place to hang it. The picture framer was fascinated and wanted me to give him a blow by blow account of the process!!
Thanks very much, Kat, you are a star. X

As a complete beginner to all things crafty, this was an excellent introduction and has definitely given me the bug! I still can't believe I actually made felt! Considering fuzzy felt was about the depth of my felt knowledge. Kat was a fabulous teacher, full of knowledge and made me feel very relaxed. I did this with my Mum, as did everyone and was an excellent opportunity to hang out, would thoroughly recommend it!

Excellent course. Kat is a great teacher and knows her stuff when it comes to wool! Feltmaking is a really interesting process which I knew nothing about previously. I learnt the basics of a new craft and also had a really chilled out afternoon. I was really pleased with the felt design I came away with. Thanks Kat!

Well, I never knew felting could be such fun!. Kat is a great and humorous teacher, not to mention, excellent tea maker. I came a way with something to be proud of and much more than I expected. I got to spend time with my lovely daughter too as we went together
If you fancy a day trip to the fine city of York and a little creative indulgence thrown in, you should get yourself on one of Kat's workshops.
