About the Course
Learn how to use and set up a basic kit for electroforming jewellery items.
Electroforming deposits a layer of metal (in this case copper) onto items to create a full or partial - decorative or structural coating.
***This is closely related, but different from electroplating - I do not teach electroplating***
This is a creative course where students learn the basics of planning and creating unique one off jewellery items using electroforming. We will be using the electroforming to partly or fully coat non metallic found or organic objects (or items students have created previously using wax, polymer clay or 3D printing) with a solid layer of copper. The copper can be purely decorative, or used to add strength to joins and connections (e.g. stone settings), or used to add a different texture or surface to items.
Suitable for complete beginners, or more experienced jewellers looking to try a new technique. The class runs over two sessions - half a day each, to allow time for the electroforming process to take place in-between. Part one will be designing and preparing pieces, and setting up the tank, part 2 will be retrieving the completed pieces, reviewing what worked best or not so well, and finishing off the pieces to create completed jewellery.
Classes (maximum 3 people) are held in my central London jewellery studio and runs from roughly 10am to 1.30/2pm on day 1, then 2-5pm on day 2.
New dates regularly added.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
The price listed is for one student on a selected course / date - courses have a maximum of 3 students per session.
Students can expect to create 3 or 4 pieces of jewellery each over the duration of the course, depending on the size and intricacy of their designs.
All the materials you need to complete the relevant projects are included in the price, as well as refreshments during the day. Lunch is not included, but there are many local shops and cafes, or you are welcome to bring a packed lunch.
This class is also available as individual 1-1 tuition, and variations are also available for shorter taster sessions, or repeat sessions to go into more detail.
Hi All.. I have recently done the copper electro-forming course with Penny. I have been wanting to do it for some time and I finally found someone super talented to teach me. I did Pennys electro-forming 2 day course. I wanted to combine the course with my love of crystals which penny helped me with and she customised it to what I wanted to achieve. Penny is an amazing teacher and really recommend the course to anyone. No previous jewellery experience needed either :-). Penny has inspired me to start making jewellery with copper and crystals and I have began making a collection to sell on my instagram... Watch this space.. Thank you Penny x
