Description

I am City & Guilds trained and qualified in soft furnishing making and hold Level 3 Award in Adult Education & Training. I will teach you how to make bespoke interlined curtains to a professional standard. This workshop is suitable for students of all abilities, however, you would need to know the very basics of using a sewing machine or, attend my one-to-one beginner class – “Getting to know your sewing machine”, this can be done on the same day, prior to the blind course. The curtains are predominantly hand sewn, so you would need to at least enjoy this method of sewing, however, I will teach you all the various stitches that are needed, such as herring-bone, slip stitch, and lock stitch. You will learn how to produce ‘high end’ luxury curtains, following traditional techniques, with weighted hems and mitered corners. The additional internal layer adds a sumptuous feel and appearance and acts as an excellent insulator. You will learn how to: Measure windows; calculate fabric quantities and pattern repeats; cut out, pattern match, and join the fabrics; attach interlinings and linings; create different handmade headings, including, double & triple pleat, box, cartridge, and goblet pleats; hang and dress your finished curtains. We will also have a chat about lining choices and suppliers. You will make a sample size interlined curtain, which will include all the techniques required when making and hanging full size curtains. Your sample will become a valuable reference tool when you come to make your own curtains. You will also be given comprehensive notes with step by step instructions. I love to share my knowledge and I am happy to answer all your questions throughout the day, or, if you are struggling with anything after the class, you only need to contact me and I will do my best to assist. The class will commence at 10am and finish around 3.30pm, with a break for lunch. Please bring a packed lunch with you.
