Bespoke Interlined Curtains

I am City & Guilds trained and qualified in soft furnishing making and hold Level 3 Award in Education & Training. I will teach you how to make bespoke soft furnishings to a professional standard.

This workshop is more suitable for those with some sewing experience.

All workshops are on a 1-2-1 personal tuition basis

You will learn how to produce professionally finished curtains, considered to be "high end" luxury. Following traditional techniques, they are predominantly hand sewn with weighted hems and mitred corners. The internal layer adds a sumptuous feel and appearance, whilst acting as an insulator.

You will learn how to measure windows, cut out, pattern match and join fabrics. Attach interlining for a bespoke sumptuous finish. Create different handmade headings including double & triple pleat, box, cartridge, and goblet pleats.

This is a full day workshop where you will make a sample size interlined curtain. This will include all of the techniques required when making and hanging full size curtains and will become a valuable reference. You will be given comprehensive notes which include step by step instructions.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

A warm welcome, all tools and fabric needed, along with homemade lunch and refreshments throughout the day. Comprehensive course notes.

Roman blinds!! Thank goodness I did not try and make them on my own 😳 - I would not have managed. So very grateful I “found” Janet, really enjoyed my days and cannot wait to put them up in my new house. 🤗 Informative helpful and relaxing learning environment.

As the first husband and wife team to attend one of Janet's courses, we tried not to be competitive. We had a great day. Janet was welcoming and provided refreshments throughout the day (with a very tasty lunch!). We were learning about interlined blinds and thoroughly enjoyed it. We have full instructions to come home with and we could add notes in as we went if we wanted to. We also went through all the health and safety rules relating to blinds.... who knew?? Janet was very good at explaining and showing us what we needed to do and we have both come home with a sample handmade under supervision.

I completed the interlined Roman blind course with Janet recently and it was such an enjoyable, informative day. Janet is a great teacher and generous in her willingness to answer all my questions. Lots of useful tips and techniques that you wouldn't find anywhere else, also she advised me on suppliers and how to make best use of my space at home to set up a workroom. A lovely lunch was also provided. With the detailed instructions and calculator sheet I am excited to start making blinds for my home and for others. It's also reassuring that I can email Janet for any queries that might arise in future. I plan to book more courses with Janet soon.

Having travelled from the south to benefit from all of the courses Janet had on offer at the time, I cannot recommend them or her highly enough. She is a proficient, approachable and very pleasant teacher. Have no hesitation in committing to her courses.

I have recently completed the bespoke Roman blind course and I am very pleased with what I have learnt to make. I had previously tried to learn from books, but failed miserably. I have since made a super blind on my own. I would certainly recommend this course to others who wish to learn to make blinds properly

I have recently done the intelined roman blind course and I am really happy with every aspect of the course. I was made to feel really wellcome by Janet as she is such a lovely lady. She has taught me every step how to make blinds and I have returned home and made another blind which I found really easy to do following her notes that she gave to me. I also had a delicious lunch and really enjoyed my day.

Janet’s one day workshop for interlined, cascading Roman blinds was excellent in every respect. She is so friendly, really knows her stuff and her teaching qualification means she is a good tutor. I am amazed at how professional the resulting sample blind looks. The hints, tips, and low-cost gadgets that Janet shares are so useful. Delicious lunch. Brilliant notes and calculator.

I had previously purchased an on-line course and several books in the hope of learning how to make Roman blinds, but it seemed impossible to follow the instructions correctly. Last week, I travelled a round trip of 120 miles to attend Janet's course, but it was so worth it. I have since made 2 beautiful interlined blinds that would have cost me hundreds of pounds if I had had them made. I'm not very experienced at sewing but it was easy to learn from Janet, who patiently demonstrated every step and supplied me with informative easy to follow instructions and access to a spreadsheet that makes it so easy to calculate pleating the blind. I thoroughly enjoyed my day and cannot recommend this course enough. I have booked to attend the interlined curtain course already. Thank you Janet, you are a fabulous teacher, looking forward to seeing you again soon.

I spent the day with Janet, to learn to make interlined curtains. The course was truly excellent. I learnt so much - making a curtain from start to finish over the course of the day - and had such a very pleasant time throughout, that I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone else who wants to learn to make beautiful curtains. Janet really knows her stuff, and not only teaches you the right way to do things, but very helpfully points out the potential pit-falls to be avoided!

Another great day with Janet. I learnt the tricks of the trade about hand stitched roman blinds earlier this year and returned yesterday for a lesson in hand stitched, interlined curtains. Again, Janet was able to share top tips to make a fantastic product as well as sharing ways in which she dealt with the large pieces of fabric which curtains inevitably are. I would recommend her courses to anyone who wants to make professional looking window dressings. You won’t be disappointed.

Sophie Lynch - - #20742

Fantastic course, had previously made a pair of curtains, but learnt how to do it properly today! Lots of great tips and advice. Janet is very knowledgable and able to answer all your questions.

Deb - - #20280

What an informative course. Lots of tips given. I never thought that I would be able to make such a good quality item by hand. Janet is a very patient and knowledgeable teacher. I am planning to return very soon to take the curtain course.

After alot of searching for courses I finally found Janet's Make for Home range of courses. I am a complete beginner, I have made a few simple curtains but wanted to try making Roman blinds. I really enjoyed the course, found the time went too quickly and Janet is very patient and explains the process in simple terms. Detailed course notes were provided which will come in very handy when I make my first blind.
Janet is a lovely lady and looks after you very well with home made lunch, tea and biscuits throughout the day. I travelled from Liverpool to attend and wouldn't hesitate to book another course, best one I have been on.

I booked this course based on the positive online reviews and I was not disappointed. I completed a sample Cascade Roman Blind to take home along with a complete set of notes and access to a calculation sheet for calculating the spacing which will be invaluable. Janet is very knowledgeable and patient and gives you lots of tips. She made me feel very welcome and I was supplied with lots of tea throughout the day. I had a most enjoyable day and agree with other reviewers', if you want to try making Roman Blinds, Janet is definitely the lady to teach you.

I covered three days with Janet, cushions, curtains and interline curtains. I've come away with fantastic knowledge and skills to make curtains for our new home.

You come away also with instructions on how to make the cushions and curtains which will be a great help.

Janet is a lovely woman, who I had the pleasure of spending time with.

Thank you so much for 3 fantastic days.

Sue Fraser - - #18401

Having spent the day with Janet I completed a sample cascade Roman blind. I have made ordinary Roman blinds but found Janet's course very informative and her calculation sheet for working out the spacing was excellent. Janet is a very knowledgeable lady and is happy to share her knowledge and advice, The day went too quick having been supplied with lots of tea and home made cake but I left with a sample blind and lots of information. If you want to try making a Roman Blind, Janet is the lady to teach you.

I've been on the roman blind course and am delighted by how much I've taken in in just one day. I now feel confident that I could produce a bespoke hand fnished blind to a professional standard. Janet is extremely knowledgeable and works to the highest standards. She is very patient and very good at communicating her wealth of experience.
