Weave Your Own Wall Hanging Workshop.
"Weaving is the perfect hobby, when you start weaving any negative thoughts or anxieties are washed away, as you get into the flow!"
You will learn the basics of weaving during a 3-hour workshop with Me, Siobhan the founder of Shiv Textiles, a Brighton-based sustainable textiles studio.
Create your own wonderful woven wall hanging in this beginner's class. Working on a small handheld frame loom, you'll learn how to start and finish weaves, explore different fibres and craft a range of simple and effective techniques. All the uniques yarns you will use, are deadstock from British mills, making your creation fully sustainable!
Using your hands to create something is super important even more so in this modern age when everyone is working on computers or are on their phones. Research shows that making things by hand is great for decreasing stress, relieving anxiety and improving mental health.
Get inspired before the workshop.

Great set to learn to weave with
A great little kit to have a taster of weaving. Well written booklet and good variety of materials. I am really enjoying it.
Hi Siv,
I received the Beginners Weaving Kit, since then I have been enjoying learning in the comfort of my own home. I made a few mistakes but learned how to correct it.
Very enjoyable, I am beginning to get confident as I learn.
Response from Shiv Textiles:
Hi Connie,This is a great little kit and I am impressed with the comprehensive instruction and information booklet that came with it. I have done lots of crafting, patchwork, quilting etc during lockdown but wanted to try something new that would keep me absorbed. This is perfect.
Lovely little kit. I have really enjoyed learning this new craft and the kit provides everything you need. More help is also available on numerous videos on line so you can't get stuck and can progress and get tips for things to make! Good communication with Siobhan. Recommended if you want something relaxing to occupy yourself.
Large loom - very impressed with the quality of this simple and practical loom. Siobhan's enthusiastic service has been kind and encouraging. Friends are already wanting to have a go so I hope that leads to more happy weavers.
Wonderful purchase! The presentation, instructions, and selection of materials are incredibly professional and inspiring.
Thoroughly recommended as a gift or project for yourself.
I took my sister-in-law to the class as a birthday present for her. It was a great success and we really enjoyed the creative time we had. Siobhan is really welcoming and a very good teacher. There was lots of 1-2-1 time, Siobhan gave us tips and ideas with a large selection of beautiful yarns to use. A lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
I went along to the weaving course with my 11 year old daughter. We had a lovely afternoon making mini wall hangings in a very cool creative space.
Siobhan was very friendly and welcoming, even though we turned up late. She gave good instructions and, with a relatively small group, she was able to offer one to one support for those of us a little slow on the uptake. Not anything Siobhan could control but the other weavers were pretty miserable but our group of 4 had a whale of a time weaving and drinking (tea for some and prosecco for the others). I was really pleased with what I went away with and all in all had a fabulous time.
My only constructive criticism and advice for Siobhan would be the workshop gets very cold. We were fully wrapped up and still shivering so I would recommend some more heaters!
Response from Shiv Textiles:
Thanks for your review and thanks for coming. I love sharing my love of textiles with others.Thoroughly recommend! Was so lovely to do something different. Shiv was a great teacher, really patient and clear with her instructions. I went with friends and we all felt a great sense of achievement with our finished product. Some of us made wall hangings and others made coasters. Would definitely recommend if you fancy doing something creative. Thanks again Shiv!
My wife and I spent a sweet afternoon with our hand looms at Shiv’s weaving workshop recently. We enjoyed therapeutic, chilled and productive process and we were really happy with our unique wall hangings that reflected our totally different styles. I’d definitely recommend this as an unusual and interesting weekend activity.
Amazing! Shiv was attentive, patient and knowledgeable! I was with a group of friends and in a short time we were all completely focused and excited practising our new skill.
The whole experience was so much fun but also massively therapeutic and a welcome break from every day life!
Shiv is extremely talented and it was brilliant to get a chance to see some of her environmentally conscious and ethical handmade products and to look around her studio.
It was lovely to enjoy a Prosecco with friends and have something at the end that I had made. Perfect afternoon.
Being terrible at knitting I wasn't sure I'd be able to exit Shiv's workshop with a finished piece... however Shiv was amazing at explaining each step and the looms she provided were excellent for keeping my weave consistent.
I was so absorbed in my weaving that the time seemed to melt away. The art is so mindful and something I will rebook with my friends to do again! Any excuse to weave - a birthday, hen do, or just as something creative to do at the weekend! Thank you for a fabulous afternoon Shiv!
Went with a couple of friends, and had such a lovely time!
Could have easily gone alone as all were so friendly. Was great to be guided through something creative and with my hands and then get to go home with what I had made. We got to choose our technique, colours and fabrics.
Shiv is a babe host, and clearly talented at what she does (she showed us her loom and how she makes all her beautiful fabrics) We had prosecco during, but others were happy with tea - highly recommended for an afternoon in Brighton!
Really friendly atmosphere. I found some parts of the weaving quite tricky, but there was a good balance of group teaching and one to one so we managed to get the hang of it! Great way to spend an afternoon.
