Ashford 8-shaft Table Loom

Description

This creative 1-day taster weaving workshop allows participants to gain a basic understanding of the principles of hand-weaving using an Ashford 8-shaft table loom. You will learn how to follow a lifting plan and weave a variety of different patterns, as well as having access to a wide variety of weft yarns to enable you to experiment with texture and colour blending. You will come away with your own selection of sample fabrics. All the looms will be set up in advance using merino wool or you can arrange to bring your own. Suitable for complete beginners, or those wishing to develop their skills on a table loom. Maximum four participants allowing plenty of personalised tuition. If you are a minimum of a group of 3, alternative dates/times can be arranged - please contact Pamela directly for enquires and booking. Pamela Print is a textile artist with 15 years experience in designing woven textiles within industry and her own hand weaving practice. She is a selected member of the Crafts Council and Design Nation.

"A very enjoyable introduction to the topic of weaving and it was lovely to see some of the artist's gorgeous work on display. The looms were already set up when we arrived which meant we could go straight into the actual weaving without having too much technical input - it's still a lot to take in at the beginning as many different names for parts and processes are used! But we were provided with a print out of the main elements and lots of lovely patterns to choose from with labelled samples of each so we knew what effect we were aiming for. The fun of trying out different colours, textures and patterns was enough to keep us engaged all day and under Pamela's supervision and with her knowledgeable assistance we each achieved a 'sampler' piece to take away, and had a very enjoyable day.
