About the Course

In this relaxed and friendly one day modern calligraphy workshop you’ll learn how to write beautiful modern calligraphy using a dip pen and nib with a pot of dippy ink.

Following step-by-step instructions, by local calligrapher Claire, you’ll learn how a calligraphy nib creates its magic - even if you’re an absolute beginner and have never held a calligraphy pen before! After practicing your modern calligraphy alphabet and learning how to link letters to form words, you’ll be shown how to position, write and illustrate a beautiful quote which will be framed in a hoop for you to display in your home or give to someone special.

Your calligraphy pen and nib are yours to take home for you to put into practice what you have learnt! All materials, healthy lunch and refreshments are included.

Please wear casual clothes, as the inks we use can stain. If you wear glasses for crafting or reading please remember to bring them with you.

There will be a little pop-up shop so you can buy colourful inks, spare nibs and penholders.

Class sizes are limited so everyone has some personal tuition – and no matter what your skill level (we all learn at different speeds) Claire will help you along the way!

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

The price of the workshop includes a calligraphy kit with pen and nib, worksheets and ink to take home along with a healthy lunch and the usual cake and refreshments.

This relaxed event takes place at our inspiring, purpose-built creative workshop located in a spectacular setting overlooking beautiful Coniston Water in the Lake District. To view more photos take a look at our Facebook or Instagram pages.

Really enjoyed my recent calligraphy course at Swallows and Artisans. The stylish new workshop was the perfect venue. Caron our tutor was really helpful and we were soon making lovely greetings cards and gift tags to take home with us. This course is a great introduction to the craft and I came home bursting with enthusiasm and ideas. The venue is in a truly stunning location and I look forward to returning for another event sometime in the near future.

Fantastic course at the beautiful Swallows & Artisans. Caron was a great tutor - helpful, encouraging and informative, and clearly passionate about her craft. We left with some beautiful hand made cards, a box of tools to keep us going, and a real sense of achievement! We were well fed and looked after by our host Karen. Do stay if you can, Lanehead is idyllic and it's the perfect venue to 'get away from it all'. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this course and venue to anyone looking for a crafty getaway.
