I enrolled on the April course which then unfortunately had to be cancelled due to COVID-19, however Michael and Jane then offered a zoom option, which I gladly joined. It was excellent in terms of content, organisation and the opportunity to get together. I tried techniques I’ve never tried before and thanks to their patience and encouragement was able to achieve some reasonable output. I’m now looking forward to meeting them in person at the September class and trying new things.

I started this course in January 2020 and cannot recommend it highly enough. It is run in a very friendly and efficient manner by Michael and Jayne is an excellent art tutor. We had the opportunity to learn and try out different mediums in the classes and were given guidance and encouragement throughout the course.
Unfortunately due to Covid19 we did not complete the last 2wks but, having said that, during lockdown, Michael and Jayne quickly set up weekly art projects for the students to follow, even providing online tutorials.
I cannot thank them both enough for all the support they have provided over the past few months, providing a lifeline for many in these very difficult times
Response from Colour Wheel County durham LTD:Thanks Jane
Im writing this review with heartfelt thanks to Michael, Partner & Jayne, tutor. After a taster session in Dec 2019, I started in Jan 2020 at Usher. This is such a peaceful environment, with laughter, fun and the concentrated silence of effort put in by all trainee artists. It covers all mediums & even though there are some I've had difficulty with, Jayne has shown me that I can overcome my fears and produce work I can be proud of!
During covid & my subsequent 12 week isolation, Michael delivered much need supplies to my home on a weekly basis. Not to mention the emailed weekly projects and zoom classes, which I can say in all honesty kept me sane! Jayne has the ability to make each person feel talented making sure there are no negative experiences. If anything, both Michael & Jayne promote the student.
If you want a truly enjoyable experience with like minded people, sign up now!

As a mature person, you give yourself a hard time learning a new skill. Art was that new skill, and I have thoroughly enjoyed learning to use different mediums, colour, tone “artsy” techniques. The class, held in beautiful Ushaw College, is a most welcoming and inspirational experience. Jayne our teacher makes it very accessible, with her gentle and encouraging teaching style. Guiding us through each new technique, and enabling us to produce some really beautiful work.
The class organisation is fantastic, down to Michael and his art supplies. The class groups are well set out with all equipment supplied. My fellow learners can relax, make friends, get the help and support they need; enjoy a laugh and produce some amazing art to boot. COVID 19 did not spoil our journey as Michael and Jayne took to Zoom, providing weekly virtual classes and projects to keep us busy.
A huge thank you for the great effort from you both, I’m sure you helped many of us survive this very strange time, keeping our mental health well, with the inspiring and healing art.
Response from Colour Wheel County durham LTD:Thanks for the lovely review Carole
During my university career in Science Education, I ran courses for adult learners and saw many others in action. Quite simply, this is the best organised and most productive of the many I have run, seen, and enjoyed (or otherwise!).
Jayne and Michael are a great double act, bringing together their different skills to make sure that every member of their class can make 2D art of good quality, some of it outstanding. Jayne is an accomplished artist and teacher who understands the essentials of drawing and painting in a range of media and puts them across with energy and enthusiasm. Michael manages the day-to-day running of the course, makes sure we have the materials on hand - all set out for us when we were at Ushaw College so that we spent our time on art. They were superb online during lockdown. At times It was just like the old days.

I left a review 8 months ago and can only reiterate my positive comments and add to them. I have loved this course from the very start and was so disappointed when it had to stop due to the Corona virus lock down but Jayne and Michael didn't let us down - they provided weekly projects via e-mail and videos, set up a class WhatsApp group which has kept us in contact with our classmates and Zoom classes. Although it wasn't the same as attending classes in person it was the next best thing and has kept me entertained during these long weeks and I can't wait to start again at Ushaw College in September when I know Michael and Jayne have worked wonders to accommodate us and get us back into class.
Thank you again both of you!
Response from Colour Wheel County durham LTD:Thanks Susan.
I signed up right from the start in January 2019 with some trepidation, having never even studied the subject to O Level standard (showing my age) but had always had the desire and that feeling of what if...
Jayne's fabulous teaching, positivity and encouragement together with Michael's wonderful support and hard work have fulfilled my hopes and more. As other students have already mentioned the feel good factor derived from producing a pleasing piece of work coupled with the ability to switch off from life's pressures and troubles has been an absolute bonus, not to mention the wonderful social aspect. I love it and just keep on signing up to the next course, would thoroughly recommend it.

I cannot praise this course enough; superb teaching, brilliant facilitator, beautiful setting and supportive classmates.
I had done very little art since school but always felt drawn to it. This course promised an introduction to a range of techniques and has more than fulfilled it’s promise. I have signed up for a second term. Thank you Jayne and Michael.
I began this course to self heal from a rather deep and traumatic experience just over two years ago. I'm a therapist and coach so have successfully self healed but felt drawn immediately to this course which popped up on social media.
Ten weeks in and I'm feeling sad this group will come to its end after another four sessions. However, so delighted am I in the incredible talent, skill and teaching from Jane and her attentive and supportive Michael ... the Organiser of Colourwheel, that I am bursting to begin the next 14 week course! Already signalled my eagerness to sign up!!
Ushaw College Durham has become my second favourite place to visit. The art course has awakened a dormant potential and brought smiles and laughter to my soul. It is absolutely amazing!
Art has become my greatest therapy.
I don't ever want to get off this flying colour wheel of fun and friendship.
Jane and Michael are a fantastic training duo!
I can’t recommend this course highly enough! As someone who’d not done any art for decades - since leaving school - I was initially apprehensive yet very excited to begin again. I’m now in my third term and have signed up for a fourth - it’s become addictive and I love it. Since starting, I’ve used a huge variety of mediums and learned then practised new skills to produce work of really good quality, and this has substantially increased my confidence in my own ability. Not only that, I now look forward so much to Wednesday classes, it’s a highlight in my week.
Much of this positivity and progress is down to the patient, encouraging and outstanding teaching by Jayne, the ever-efficient organisation and welcoming nature of the course leader, Michael, and the sheer variety and quality of resources provided for us to work with. If you’re thinking about joining an art class, look no further!
I really cannot recommend this course enough! I am now in my second term, and really enjoying it. Every week Is different, building on skills using various media. The lessons are led by a fantastic teacher, and are brilliantly well run and administered. Ushaw College is a beautiful setting, giving a real ‘away from it all’ feeling. I am very much a beginner, but always feel thoroughly encouraged and valued – go for it!
I hadn’t done any art since school so when I left work I wanted a class to re-learn the skills. I joined at the beginning of 2019 with some apprehension however this was quickly alleviated by the friendly and informal nature of the class. I am now on my third term and cannot speak highly enough about Jayne, the teacher, and Michael who organises. They are both very friendly and helpful and throughout the three terms I have learnt a range of new skills, experimented with all kinds of mediums and I have seen improvements in my own work as well as others. Jayne and Michael are only to keen to help, nothing is a problem for them and they praise and encourage the whole class. Recently the classes have displayed some of their artwork at different venues and the feedback has been very complimentary, this in itself reflects the value of Jayne and Michael. I thoroughly enjoy the course and I have signed for the next term, I can’t recommend it enough. Thanks again to Jayne and Michael , plus the lovely setting.
Response from Colour Wheel County durham LTD:Thank you Lynn for the lovely review very much appreciated.
I had wanted to do an art course that covered all mediums for a while but there was nothing in this area so when the leaflet for Colour Wheel came through the door I couldn't wait to join. I wasn't disappointed and am now on my third term. All the topics covered are very interesting and demonstrated step by step by Jayne (art teacher) with handouts in class and follow up notes via e-mail. Jayne is very helpful and friendly and I have learnt a lot of new skills and techniques. Michael who runs the course is also extremely helpful and friendly. I love the course and have already signed up for next term. I thoroughly recommend joining this course. Thank you Jayne and Michael
