Discover Machine Embroidery with Sarah Ames ..a Quirky Workshop at Greystoke, the Lake District & Cumbria

About the Course

Covid19 update: offering over 100+ courses in Cumbria & the Lakes, we hope to resume all 'in person' courses in late July 2020. During lock down, we've upgraded a listed barn into a beautiful spacious workshop studio, enabling courses to take place with 2m distancing, hand washing and two staircases. It's possible usual catered lunches may not be included for summer courses, depending on circumstances at the time.

About the applique and stitch workshop:

Join Sarah Ames for a day of discovery and fun creating some lovely pieces using free machinery embroidery techniques incorporating hand stitch, applique and embellishment.

Freehand machine embroidery is amongst the favourite of techniques in the crafting world, it's easy, quick, effective and produces a great range of results.

Your day with Sarah will teach you all the basic skills you need to use freehand machining on a variety of projects.

(Note : it must be possible for the feed dogs on your sewing machine to be dropped to permit machining in any direction).

Sarah will come with a host of ideas for you as well as some templates you can use if you feel unsure about your design. Please bring along any reference materials that inspire you, such as books or magazine pictures that can be traced etc.

Please bring any special pieces of favourite materials, inspirations, resources and bits and pieces you may wish to use in your design.

If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

Welcome drinks : fresh coffee & home made biscuits, a lovely 2 course Aga lunch served in our farmhouse kitchen or outside on the Tea Lawn as soon as it's warm enough. To finish off the day, a freshly made Cream Tea (including Aga-baked scones, cream and jam).

Our days are considered special treats; many come back time and time again and often combine it with a short break to the Lake District.

We have been hosting and organising 'Quirky Workshops' since 2005 on the northern fringes of the Lake District. All our tutors are carefully hand selected experts and professionals and many considered as leading nationally in their field.

Dear Sarah and Annie,
Just to say how much I enjoyed the embroidery course last Saturday. It was great to spend a day with so many lovely ladies and so many sewing machines!
I’ve finished my picture and made a couple of lavender bags using the same techniques. I’m sure I will be doing lots more.
