Options within jewellery making are endless and can be overwhelming. Alison Flanders offers a taster session for those not ready to commit just yet but wish to have an introduction by making rings using sterling silver. Scheduled classes begin at 11am. However other times can be arranged. Private 1-1 sessions are available for £150.00 for 3 hours. Private sessions for 2 or more students are the same as scheduled … at £100.00 extra per person. Classes are held in her dedicated shared space in Cockpit Studios in Holborn, Central London. Each student has their own bench with all tools and equipment. At the moment there are 3 benches fully set-up so each student will get plenty of individual guidance. We use 2mm or thicker round or rectangular wire. The workshop runs for 3 hours and can sometimes overrun a little. By the end of this session you will have learned how to :- Measure ring lengths Use the jewellers saw Anneal metal Use pliers and mandrels to form the ring Solder with pillions Use files Texturing using hammers and punches Polish and Finish your ring You will be introduced to the various tools and equipment used in the jewellery industry during the session. Safe and proper use of the tools, crucial to working in any craft, are identified for the students’ future practice.

What's included in the price?

All materials are provided. All you need is to bring yourself. Please wear closed toed shoes. Bring glasses you need for reading if necessary and something to tie back long hair.

Alison Flanders has over 30 years’ experience designing and hand-crafting jewellery in gold and silver. She graduated from Middlesex University in 1976 with a BA Hons degree in silversmithing and design. Alison moved to the States and for many years ran a jewellery business in addition to teaching in colleges of art in New York City, including the prestigious Parsons New School for Design and the 92nd St Y. Now back in London she works and teaches in her studio in Cockpit Arts in central London.
