Cheryl reviewed: Pot throwing on the wheel for a Half Day

"I bought this experience for my husband's 70th birthday. Initially it was for 1 person because in these strange times I was unsure how many would be allowed in the workshop. In the event Richard was able to offer me the opportunity to join in. I can't praise him highly enough, the venue had been organised to be Covid safe and at no time did we feel uncomfortable. Richard's demonstration and explanation was clear and easy to understand. He has the patience of a saint in dealing with our inept attempts. I think we all felt reasonably satisfied with our finished products which were not perfect but good for the novices we are."

Potterydayz responded:

"Hi Cheryl thank you for leaving such a great review. I am delighted you both enjoyed the morning and felt comfortable. Congratulations on your achievements."

Kerry reviewed: Pot throwing on the wheel for a Half Day

"What a fabulous afternoon! First day after lockdown, great to spend 3 hours quality time, in the sunshine with my teenager, under Richard’s excellent supervision. As first time potters, Richard quickly put us at our ease and his simple, but very effective instruction meant we were throwing pots in no time! Not quite Ming vases, but we each had 3 or 4 decent pots to be proud of by the end, can’t wait to go back in a few weeks and glaze them. Small groups (we were the only 2), great tuition and excellent value for money as includes the day throwing, all instruction and raw materials, a second visit back to glaze and firing. If you want to have ago at throwing pots, can’t recommend Richard enough, going to book on his Raku course next!"

Potterydayz responded:

"Thank you very much Kerry for the stunning review, it was a pleasure to have you both along on the first day. I look forward to seeing you for glazing or on the Raku course. Best wishes."

"I booked a three hour pottery throwing class with my mum, and we had such an enjoyable time. Neither of us had ever thrown pots before, and we both created a couple of pieces! Richard was extremely helpful and has so much knowledge to share. Covid restrictions were considered, we both felt very safe. Don't hesitate, just book!"

"Great to see you both at Potterydayz, delighted you enjoyed the experience and many thanks for the review"

"Brilliant day. Neither of us had thrown pots before. Richard explained everything simply and clearly. We were totally engrossed in the process and the morning flew by. Playing with the clay in the afteronn was also great. Making coil pots took me back to my school days. Cant wait to return to glaze our creations."

Potterydayz responded:

"Thanks guys- see you soon for glazing Richard"

Rebecca reviewed: Pottery wheel throwing and hand building full day

"Beginners luck. I have wanted to try pottery for quite some time and I'm lucky I came across Richard. Especially with this pandemic he was very careful, with social distancing and lots of sanitizer, while still being able to teach me how to throw clay. I managed to make two well centred pots in a two hour session. Would definitely go again."

Potterydayz responded:

"Well done Rebecca, I look forward to seeing you again. Richard"

Hannah Hamilton reviewed: Raku - learn the exciting art of rapid Japanese glaze firing

"I have been to Potterydayz twice before for throwing lessons, and I was really impresed by the standard of teaching, so I was really keen to try raku here. The raku course covers a completely different side of pottery, and it was absolutely fascinating. I absolutely loved it, and Richard's teaching was excellent again. There is the option to visit in advance to make your own pots for the raku firing, but you could also do this as a standalone day - I would recommend making your own for the full experience! It was a great day, and the other course attendees were lovely. I would thoroughly recommend this course."

Potterydayz responded:

"Thank you for the review Hannah, always a pleasure to see you here at Potterydayz, I am delighted you have enjoyed the different experiences. See you again soon I hope"

Sarah Haines reviewed: Raku - learn the exciting art of rapid Japanese glaze firing

"As a complete novice I attended two courses with Potterydayz: one to hand craft two cups and a mask and the other to glaze and fire them. I cannot tell you how exciting it is, waiting to find out how the colours turn out after firing. Like children, five fully grown women excitedly waiting to see what our pots would look like. I was the only novice in the group but it didn't matter - it is suitable for experienced potters or complete beginners. Richard is a superb teacher, patient, helpful and extremely knowledgeable. The day flew by and I had, what I thought, were pretty impressive pots, to take home. I would thoroughly recommend you try it."

Potterydayz responded:

"Thank you for the review Sarah, it was a pleasure to spend time making and firing Raku artefacts with you. Hope to see you in the near future."

Tina reviewed: Pot throwing on the wheel for a Half Day

"I booked the 3 hour course as a treat, and what a great day it was. Richard had everything set up in the garden undercover, all spaced out and adhering to the covid rules. He expertly showed us what to do and we had lots of goes at trying to make a bowl or vase, some good but most not so good. It was a really fun messy half day, and would recommend to all."

Potterydayz responded:

"Thanks for your review Tina, a pleasure to see you here at Potterydayz. See you again soon."

Colleen Williamson reviewed: Pot throwing on the wheel for a Half Day

"My husband and I recently did a 3 hour course on the wheels with Richard. It was so much fun and so well explained and demonstrated. We both ended up with pots that we are proud of for first attempts. Richard is so kind, attentive and knowledgeable - what he doesn't know about pottery isn't worth knowing! We will definitely be back."

"This is the second pottery course we have done with Richard, he is an amazing teacher with so much experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it. My son is 15 and doing 3D Art GCSE and this has given him some extra experience during the time he has been away from school during the pandemic. I would highly recommend Richard!"

"My husband bought me a voucher for Christmas - what a great gift this turned out to be. I took a friend along and had a brilliant time with Richard. Hannah Hamilton reviewed: Pot throwing on the wheel for a Half Day

"I did this half day course with two friends. Richard is an exceptional teacher - he keeps things clear, gives you plenty of time to learn and try things out without micromanaging, and is extremely supportive and encouraging. We have already been back a second time (with a fourth friend in tow!) and will certainly be returning again in the future. I cannot recommend this half day course highly enough."

"It was a pleasure to see you all here at Potterydayz and I look forward to welcoming you again in the near future. Thank you very much for the review Richard"

Susan Broccoli reviewed: Pottery wheel throwing taster

"What a creatively therapeutic morning! I spied this special offer over on Instagram a month back and thought what a great present for me and my husband to do together and how right I was! This morning we travelled over to Kings Cliff to the pottery studio of Potterydayz and were greeted by Richard, our master potter, another couple; Juliet and Dion.. and not forgetting the resident cat and a cup of coffee. Richard’s expertise is amazingly quick, not like us beginners, at the three basics on centralising, opening and lifting. He gives you slow instructions with his demonstrations to get you on your way with your own wheel to play on. It looks so easy, especially after watching weeks on The Great British Pottery Throwdown! Alas, it’s not quite as easy as it looks; arms in - speed up - water here and there - remove the water - delicately on and delicately off as one quick move and it’s destroyed before your eyes, but it’s so much fun. Richard guides you into getting the right techniques.. clay after clay as you try to learn by your mistakes. I failed on two attempts with one coming in half lol and the other ending up a wibbly wobbly mess... it’s all in the learning... and then with a bit of help you’ve got something. It’s time to stop and finish off. It’s hard work but relaxing, it’s draining but exhilarating, it’s dirty (very dirty) but you don’t care! After you’ve pushed, squeezed, pulled, you eventually get your vase, jug, bowl or whatever your creation looks nearest to...?, you obviously feel very proud. The workshops are 2 hours give or take, and no rush to get you out the door when you’ve finished. It’s a great experience whether you do the experience with a partner, friends or on your own. I’ll be picking my half-vase up in a few weeks to glaze it. Thanks Richard for a great morning."

Potterydayz responded:

"Delighted you both got so much out of the workshop. Look forward to seeing you both again soon."

Peter Richardson reviewed: Pottery wheel throwing and hand building full day

"I just wanted to say what a great Pottery day we had with Richard ealier this month. Both I and my wife Ann are relative novices, but Richard's teaching methods, manner and obvious love of pottery was inspiring, and we improved so much in the hours we spent with him. We're both very keen to return, and I understand that Raku sessions are also available, which would be amazing. Many thanks to Richard - a lovely, patient man, with years of experience and skills to share (he also makes great soup!) Peter and Ann (Irthlingborough, Northants)"

Potterydayz responded:

"Hi Peter and Ann, Thank you! It was a pleasure to have such able and enthusiastic students. You did really well! Richard."

"Excellent experience of potting thanks to Richard. Very personal tuition, showing us step by techniques. Enabling us to create ceramics pots from the wheel and hand building. We were so pleased with what we learnt and made during the session. All topped off with a delicious homemade soup. We will definitely be booking again."
