Maker's bio

Father and Daughter team, Nick and Sophie started spoon carving to help improve their wellbeing and mental health, however, it’s become more than just a pass time, it’s become an obsession! We prefer to carve spoons in our back yard, but in the rain and snow, we retreat indoors. Our wood chippings have spread around the whole house! We started our own business in 2018, The Gosman Spoon Co, and now sell our spoons online and offer beginner’s spoon carving courses.

Sam and his Mum reviewed: Beginners spoon carving

"We had a great time. Thank you for your patience - Sam came away with a great spoon and sense of achievement. We learnt a lot and I feel more confident that Sam can now use carving tools responsibly and effectively. Thanks again for a wonderful day."

Gosman Spoon Co. responded:

"Thank you both of you! It was great meeting you and Sam, he really got into it, perhaps a new pastime? My daughter and I have spent many happy hours carving together. If you need any more help with info or tools please just contact me."

Gwendoline reviewed: Beginners spoon carving

"I recently attended the spoon carving workshop and it was an absolutely fantastic experience! Nick was incredibly knowledgeable and patient, guiding us through each step with ease. Debbie was lovely and took good care of us throughout the day. The hands-on approach made it easy to learn, the atmosphere was friendly and encouraging, perfect for both beginners and those with some experience. I left with a beautiful handmade spoon. Highly recommended for anyone looking to learn a new skill and have fun in the process!"

Gosman Spoon Co. responded:

"Debbie and I are delighted that you enjoyed your day so much, it was a fantastic workshop despite the weather! If you have any questions about tools or further information, please feel free to contact us :)"

Kathy Simkin reviewed: Beginners spoon carving

"Our teenage son and his friend thoroughly enjoyed their recent beginners spoon carving day. It was great for them to have a go at something completely different and learn new skills together with information and knowledge about the art of carving and the types of wood used for the variety of items which can be made. A very welcoming and knowledgeable host helped make the day a great success! We would certainly recommend this course to others - thank you very much! "

Gosman Spoon Co. responded:

"Thank you Kathy. It was such a pleasure seeing two young people really getting into greenwoodworking!"

Tim Nixon reviewed: Beginner’s bowl carving

"Just finished the two day bowl making course and I'm please to say that I now have a nice looking usable wooden bowl. Nick is an excellent tutor, very knowledgeable and patient and very good company to boot. I struggle a bit with energy levels and some of the early work is a little strenuous but there is a lot of encouragement and a little bit of help available if needed to ensure you go home with a bowl that you will be proud of. Can't recommend the course enough. I have now been on the spoon and bowl carving courses and will definitely be going back again."

Gosman Spoon Co. responded:

"Thank you Tim! We’re looking forward to seeing you again. In the meantime if you have any questions or need some help on tools, please just message me."
