Another fantastic course. Jen at Cheshire School of Glass is the most amazing teacher. She is technically brilliant, highly creative and excellent at teaching us students. No question ever goes unanswered, and you are encouraged to ask as many questions as you like. I have enjoyed all the classes I have done with Jen, and will be going back for more. The classes are small, so she has time to help each of us when we need it. One of the greatest parts of her courses is that we are allowed to choose what style we want to use for each piece and are encouraged to experiment. This means that you get to take home some great pieces, that you want to put them on show. I have several pieces now, including pictures, bowls, and some I have made for friends and family. I can't recommend Jen's courses more highly.
Having attended a beginner's course elsewhere, I can honestly say that Jen's course is excellent. She is generous with her advice, materials and enthusiasm and the two days spent at Cheshire School of Glass were thoroughly enjoyable - as well as very productive.
Her power point show with handouts at the beginning revised different types of glass, cohesion factors, kiln programmes etc and then we learnt how to make and use our own moulds, slumping and about different frits and paints etc etc by making a bowl with the moulds, a lace bowl and a personal artwork ... and that was just the first day.
Second day included ceramic paints, inclusions, use of mica, metal, foils, how to cut circles and we made a mirror and another, large artwork and we could have made more, had we wished to. There was no restriction to set templates or standard sizes for pieces, we were allowed to make whatever our imagination came up with (which, in our cases, was what we both needed for our bathroom door/window) and expertly guided so that these were successful.
Actions speak louder than words - I've decided to do another day working with Jen when I go to pick up my pieces after firing (although the artwork made the first day was ready by the second morning and is already on display at home) and I have signed up for the Christmas decorations course in two months' time as well.
Thank you Jen for being such an excellent teacher and for your enthusiasm in helping me learn so much and come away with pieces that I am really pleased with.
I have just returned from a 1 to 1 course with Jennifer Barker at Cheshire School of Glass. I love working with fused glass and I wanted to take my skills up to the next level. I am so pleased that I have found this school, as the course was absolutely amazing. Jen's knowledge is extensive and her enthusiasm contagious. The course exceeded my expectations and I loved my day so much, that I wished I was there for the full week. I have learnt so much in one day and would say if you are thinking of a course in fused glass, this one is a must. I will definitely be booking another day with Jen and will be putting it on my Christmas list.
I have done many creative courses over the last 10 years. Jenny is the most generous teacher I have ever been to. She is one of the UK's leading authorities in glass fusing and makes it hugely easy and enjoyable, effortlessly passing on huge amounts of knowledge and oodles of inspiration. The glass workshop is warm and instantly you feel at home. Jen let us all use our creative freedom but cleverly guided us without us even knowing. A wonderful experience. No wonder so many people rave about her.
I was recommended this course by a well known UK Glass Suppliers . It was the best creative thing I have ever done, Jenny is an authority in the fusing area and her ability to teach specific kiln worked glass skills is incredible. It was such good value for money considering the materials and information I have come away with. She is a star.
I have never met such an inspiring teacher. There is nothing Jennifer doesn't know about glass fusing and creating beautiful artwork. Jennifer is a wonderful teacher who brings out the best in all of her students... even the lesser talented ones, like me and my husband! A truly creative and indulgent day where we all learnt so much and came away hungry for more of Jennifers time. Amazing experience. We will be back.
This is a wonderful course with an equally wonderful teacher.
If you are thinking of doing it - book now!
Jen is a delight and knows EVERYTHING about glass/ kilns the lot. She is also completely lovely.
Fun, informative and crafty. What's not to like?
I have recently been on a course in Frodsham in Cheshire and had a wonderful course. I loved the results and the teaching so much , I've booked another course immediately. The teacher has a brilliant structure to the course. She has an easy going manner that makes you immediately feel at ease , yet effortlessly took us all through the process of working with glass and inspired us all to make the most wonderful pieces. I don't know how she did it! I don't consider myself to be very good at art, although I love creating! However Jennifer made it so inspiring I feel we just all responded to her inspiring approach. An amazing experience. I can't wait to do the next one. I have mentioned Cheshire School of glass to Wilmslow WI as I think they would love to do it in groups.

I recently did a 2 day stained glass workshop tutored by Steph Brown. It was a wonderful experience and I thoroughly enjoyed learning the basic techniques for stained glass projects. Steph is an excellent tutor and has amazing patience (which she certainly needed with me!) Her gentle approach gives you the confidence to learn , and I was able to produce a panel that I'm really proud of and can't wait to do more. The course is based in a lovely setting and we all got well looked after with drinks, lunch and sweets! As you go through the course, you realise what good value for money it is, and as there is only 4 of you, you get lots of individual attention. Thanks again, Steph ( and Jenny).
Jenny taught us all so much in 2 days. A wonderful experience and we all learnt so much. I had been on a basic fusing course prior to this one and would recommend both highly to anyone interested in learning kiln- based glass skills to anyone.
This was the best crafts course I have been on and I've been on quite a few over the years. Jenny has a lovely studio on a farm with great facilities. We were all welcomed ( there were 4 of us ) , with coffee and cake and given a really good introduction talk that explained the process of glass fusing. The day went far too quickly, it was a wonderful mix of creativity, good company and learning new many skills.
I collected my pieces the next day and couldn't believe how wonderful everything was that came out. Everyone made 3 big wall panels - you can have them framed by Jenny in the week - which I did order, for my favourite piece and it looked really good!
A well put together course that anyone would enjoy who likes being creative. You don't have to have worked in glass before to do this course, there was a mix of people on the course from beginners to people who had kilns. Jenny , the teacher catered for all levels with ease. Wonderful results in a lovely setting. All materials and refreshments included. I will go back and do more courses. It was good value for money I think.
I am a Secondary school teacher in school in Staffordshire. I came with a specific plan to learn how to use kilns , prgramme them, teach pupils glass techniques safely and find out costs of materials and where to purchase them.
This course exceeded my expectations. Money well spent with an exceedingly knowledgable teacher. a wonderful day.
I just have just completed the two day ‘stained glass’ course at Cheshire school of glass.
What an amazing, thoroughly enjoyable experience. Steph the course tutor was simply awesome, she give us all the confidence to attempt and succeed at challenging stain glass projects.
She has extensive knowledge, skill and expertise, but the patient way she demonstrates and helps you is her greatest asset.
Definitely the very best training course I’ve ever attended.....
Can’t wait to try some glass projects at home:-)
I recently did a one day fused glass for beginners and it was a brilliant experience. There were 4 of us on the course and we had an introductory talk and then on to the practical part of the day. Jen was a fantastic teacher, sharing her wisdom and experience yet allowing us to be creative. I was apprehensive beforehand being a complete beginner but Jen has an easy going manner which put everyone at ease. I was delighted with the whole day and would thoroughly recommend it.
Having done a course for beginners, I wanted to learn more. The two day intermediate course was ideal. It provided me with a good mix of technical information and practical work, as well as allowing some time for homework and reflection. I was introduced to a number of techniques including complex glass cutting, casting, sand blasting, metal inclusions, silver stain and enamel work. Jenny is very enthusiastic and she made sure that I was able to carry out my designs. I came away with, what I think, are some fine pieces and desire to continue my glass explorations. The atmosphere in the studio was great and I was sorry to leave. Big thanks to Jenny and Steph for all their support!
thank you Jenny. I thoroughly enjoyed this glass for the garden course today. I didn't know what to expect but Jenny held my hand and guided me through so many possibilities in making glass designs. this course was an inspirational gift from my husband and what a brilliant choice it was. Loved every minute. Jenny I shall be back! Marge.
We have just completed a two day fused glass course and i can highly recommend Jennie and her teaching skills, she is so generous with her time and patience we had a great time and learned so much. We left with some beautiful pieces and we will be back . My love is painting and to do landscapes in glass was a real thrill thank you Jennie you rock x
Myself and a friend have just spent two days with Jenny doing landscapes, and a few other projects - Jenny was Absolutely Fantastic - What a warm, friendly and giving person
I can't draw even a stick person, but Jenny made it all so easy, and i finished up amazed with my finished projects, so much that my friend and I are now saving up to go on our next workshop later in the year x
If you don't fancy a landscape, just speak to Jenny as she is so open to any ideas, and has the knowledge to make it happen x
My 18 year old daughter has just been on a one to one course with Jenny at the cheshire school of glass. She had a wonderful time designing and making. Jenny has taught at Art colleges for many years so understands the creative education system and is great with teenagers. Sophie is doing her A-levels at the moment , she benefited so much from Jenny teaching her we have booked another day. The course was catered specifically with Sophie's A-level project in mind so the work can be affiliated in to her course work. A brilliant experience. Sophie came away buzzing with enthusiasm.
