Rich reviewed: Creative Mosaic Workshop

"Interesting day, in lovely surroundings. Very much enjoyed learning the basics of mosaic creation, and took away something resembling the picture I'd taken with me. Ali was very friendly, welcoming, helpful, insightful and supportive. Certainly something I could see myself spending time on creatively in the future. I took photos of main tools and materials during the day, and good to have a one-pager handout to take away as a reminder of some of the things discussed/imparted. Thank you very much."

Mosaic Workshops in the Garden Room responded:

"Much enjoyed my day with you all. Great work was created and I hope you carry on with the mosaic journey. A"

Ryan H reviewed: Spoon Carving - Slojd Workshop

"I’d been bought this course as a birthday gift. Not knowing what to expect, I went with an open mind and it turned out to be a fun and therapeutic way to spend a Saturday. Set in lovely Bellingham, Northumberland. Max is a great teacher, friendly, patient and with a natural ability to explain things in a way that’s easy for a novice to understand. The number of people on the course (5) was right for the size of the workshop and allowed Max to give individual guidance to each participant. A lot of information to take in but delivered in a way that was not overwhelming. Even with the technical element, the art of carving a simple spoon out of a piece of wood is surprisingly relaxing. I would highly recommend Max and his spoon carving workshop!"

Max Sconyers III responded:

"Thanks for the kind words, Ryan! It was great to carve together. I am so glad that you enjoyed the day."

Richard Phillips reviewed: Mig Welding For Beginners Introductory Day Course.

"I had a great day with Tony on Friday 20th June. I’d never done any welding before, Tony was very friendly, clear and patient, talked all about the welder itself and how to set it up etc, provided me with clean overalls, gloves and a good welding mask. Toney was very good at talking through and showing me what to do. I thoroughly enjoyed my day, the environment was clean and tidy and great for teaching. I was there on what was the hottest day of the year so far, but with large fans and supply of cold water it was fine. I highly recommend this course for any welding beginners."

"Really good session but finding it was challenging. You need what 3 words (Score.Plea.Grips) to locate, as no phone signal and postcode not exact for getting there by sat nav Learnt loads. Tutor v knowledgable and skilled at explaining and guiding. Just 2 of us on the course so we’d made a ring and bracelet each in 6 hrs. No additional charge for silver used although you need be reasonable in usage understandably. Wholly recommend. And you have something that you can wear as a reminder "

I have taught art myself for 30 years so I know a good teacher when I see one. I particularly valued her extensive range of materials which she provided. I was also grateful for the choice of images she offered us for inspiration. A lovely day I highly recommend and will be doing another one during the course of the coming year. (Great cake too!) "

Claire reviewed: 2-Day Introduction to Wood Carving

"I am a self-taught whittler and have also done some slightly bigger carving projects in my garage, but I am self-taught and recognised that my technique would benefit from some proper instruction. I was absolutely right. There were 6 of us and I learned so much from Tom who was patient, flexible and adapted to the needs of every individual on the course, many of whom had no experience of carving wood up to that point. You can bring your own design or use carvings that Tom provided to inspire your design and because you have 2 days, you have enough time (just) to produce a significant and completed piece of work to take home with you. Tom gave us all so many useful tips. He spent significant time with each of us throughout both days, guiding and helping us individually on what actions to take next on our pieces as well as demonstrating how to correct mistakes that will inevitably occur whether you are a beginner or and intermediate carver. The workshop itself is just that - it's lovely and atmospheric but there isn't any heating so you need to wear layers. You also need to be in comfortable and appropriate shoes as you will be on your feet for the 2 days, standing and moving around your station all the time. There are a few stools so you can take a break, but because you are focused on your carving, you kind of forget! The added bonus is that the onsite cafe does really good food and drink - I can personally recommend the cinnamon bun but everything else looked delicious too. "

Maria reviewed: Embroidered Cyanotypes with Emily Mackey

"A fantastic workshop! I had never done Cyanotype Printing before but Emily was brilliant at explaining the process, provided plenty of inspiration and lots material to use. We embroidered some of our prints in the afternoon, and again Emily explained the process and gave lots of hints and tips. The embroidery gives it another dimension – so inspirational! Thank you Emily, it was a perfect day - great company, lovely lunch and a beautiful setting. Thank you also for the samples, I can’t wait to do some more prints and make the cushions for my garden. I would thoroughly recommend this Course to anyone interested in Cyanotype."
