Linda reviewed: Fused Glass Christmas Decorations with April Pebble

"Thoroughly enjoyed the workshop! I am not a naturally creative person but had great fun making my Christmas decorations. April was lovely - really informative, helpful and calming for a novice such as myself. Looking forward to picking up the finished articles once they have been in the kiln."

"Ah thanks for these words linda, it was great to see your creativity shine through and you made some really lovely pieces. They are all now out of the kiln so you can pick them up on thurs-sat, between 10- 3pm from the Woven cafe or private message me if you want to get them a different time. Warm wishes, April "

Claire reviewed: Beginners 1-day pairs woodturning workshop

"I bought the woodturning workshop for my Dad for his 80th birthday. We were warmly welcomed by Simon with a coffee and biscuits, after an hour & half drive, both Dad & I were abit nervous but we were soon put at ease by Simon after being reassured by his professionalism, knowledge, patience & interest in us as people. The workshop is very clean, tidy and well organised with health and safety deeply in mind, as being complete novices this is a must. We had a lathe each and lots of time to practise and ask questions before we started our lovely Cherry bowls. Which are taking pride of place in our homes. Our family’s really love them. We had a lovely lunch provided by Louise, thank you Louise… and refreshments offered to us thru out the day. Not only do you woodturn but also the process to get the best out of product, sandpaper, gritting, waxing etc… The day was just perfect and catered to us, going at our pace… This is certainly a birthday to remember for Dad and a day never to forget. We loved it, and will be back.. Thank you Simon & Louise. "

Blended Monkey - pottery - woodturning - green woodworking - pole lathe - throwing responded:

Marj McDonald reviewed: Fabric Collage and Free-motion Machine Embroidery - FLORALS - Beverley

"My daughter Katie and I attended on Friday 22nd November. Instructions to find the venue were good and parking reasonably easy in the side street. Holly was very welcoming and the room well set up for our session. Holly explained each stage of the process very clearly and was on hand to help individually. Teas and coffees were regularly offered; we brought our own lunch and toilet facilities were easily accessible. The choice of design available to embroider and fabrics to choose from were vast and we could also bring along our own design if we preferred. The session passed really quickly and pleasantly in the company of 6 other friendly women, with lots of helpful advice from Holly. She had numerous examples to show us so that we could visualise how our own work might look. The end of the session was a little rushed - as novices, we were slower than we would have liked - but we went home with a pleasing piece of embroidery and knowledge of how to create similar pieces on our own machines. Katie and I both enjoyed our day very much - good fun - good value. Thank you Holly."

Bryony reviewed: 1 Day Bring Your Own Upholstery Project - Lewes

"A brilliant day. Lots of support and advice from Lucy, both in terms of the projects we were focusing on, as well as more advanced methods. I learned a lot of skills and was so pleased with what we all achieved by the end of the day. Definitely booking another to try upholstering a couple of dining room chairs next time! "

Roundedby responded:

"Thanks Bryony! You brought such an interesting piece and it’s always great for students to learn some of the traditional basics like webbing (which you did so well!). I love how the personality of the stool was completely changed with the wonderful ochre mustard bird fabric you chose, something about the birds legs really mirrored the lovely turned legs on the stool - excellent choice! Yes! Come and do the dining chairs! Best - Lucy"

Peter Rainsbury reviewed: Axe Making Course - One Day Blacksmithing Experience

"Had a great time making an Axe with Tom’s guidance and teaching. The 1to1 format meant I could take the time to learn each step and plenty of hands on blacksmithing. By the end of the day I had made an awesome Axe that I am totally stoked with! Tom was happy to make adjustments as we went along, making the Axe bearded and with a longer handle. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants to make their own Axe from scratch."

Helen Robertson reviewed: Pottery wheel throwing & glass fusing 1-day course

"Four of us spent a fantastic day with Chris and Sarah after I had met them at Edgbaston artisan market and been given two vouchers for a special birthday. In the morning we were delighted to find we would be working at the wheel and, with a few little mishaps, each of us managed to make three little pots, all completely different! Adding colour with the slip was fun. We can’t wait to see our creations when they have been fired. Chris was really patient and clear, showing us first then giving advice as we went along. Meanwhile Sarah had prepared a fantastic lunch which we all had together, admiring all the beautiful pottery and glass. The afternoon was spent in Sarah’s studio learning lots of techniques to make different kinds of glass decorations/pendants/coasters. Again she was a great teacher although it took us a bit longer to get our heads round it - so again she had to be patient with us. Her studio was an Aladdin’s cave of beautiful coloured glass and baubles. We loved it. Before we left we were able to look at their little shop in the front room and all bought something to take home. Overall we had a wonderful day and thought that it was good value for the whole experience. Best to wear old clothes for the pottery (some of us were messy although Chris gave us aprons). The directions and instructions were clear and communication before the course great. We were all new to both the pottery wheel and glass, so we learnt a great deal - and were all exhausted by the time we got home. We would all do it again and we can’t wait to go back to collect our creations. Thank you for a wonderful day. "

Sarah Greening Glass responded:

"Thank you so much for leaving such a comprehensive review - very much appreciated! Thanks, Sarah & Chris"

Clare Janik reviewed: Lino printing Christmas card workshop

"What an inspiring and creative day! Penny was so welcoming and her studio was delightful (and warm). I was much more of a novice than my fellow two attendees but with Penny's patience and clear guidance, I was able to produce a design and cards that I was really happy with. Penny made copious amounts of hot drinks and served us delicious homemade cakes in the afternoon - we were very well looked after. It really was a great way to spend the day and so much fun with lots of giggles. I can't think of a better way to while away a day creatively. "

Jennifer Wedgwood reviewed: Stained glass weekly classes in Sheffield (South Yorkshire)

"Martin and Kate are great tutors- always on hand to offer practical help and advice and to ensure you improve week by week. The classes are mixed experience so beginners like me get inspiration and motivation from others. The first projects are very well structured to learn the basics, but then you have a lot of freedom to decide where you will go next. Warm, friendly, creative and a real escape."

Martin McAssey Glass responded:

"Thank you for the lovely review, we look forward to seeing yo again for the April term."

Richard Vidal reviewed: Crafty Basketry's Willow Basket Making for Beginners/Improvers - Day Course at Cowshed Workshop, Tenterden, Kent

"The tuition from Marianne was first class. She clearly explained and showed us all the required weaving techniques and very useful tips. Marianne gave us a comprehensive introduction and her amazingly beautiful sample baskets on display gave us good ideas of what to aspire to make. The pace of the tuition was just right and Marianne has patience galore to help us navigate complex techniques. It was extremely rewarding to complete the day with our own basket creations which consisted of different bands of natural willow colour with a variety of newly learnt weaves. It was a very enjoyable day in a homely environment with an excellent teacher."

Matt reviewed: Firebird Forge Blacksmithing School

"Had a fantastic day at the Forge - Mort was a great instructor and encouraged us to come up with what ever we wanted to attempt. He then leapt into action showing us the basic techniques to make almost anything. It’s turned out it’s not quite and easy as he made it looks but with instruction and a little help our creations came together. I had brought some old spanners and we set about creating a really cool looking carving knife and fork set. Then we set to work making some coat hooks out of the remaining spanner’s. I’m so pleased with my creations and was really getting into it when the end of the day came. Now in the evening I’m aching but already looking for projects that I can return to the forge and make. Mort was a great instructor giving you all the opportunity to figure out how to work the metal and sorting any untidy work making it look slick. He was also full of historic facts about a seemingly endless array of subject. In all a great day making cool stuff and having a decent yarn - highly reccomended "
