Ali Leather reviewed: Two day dry stone walling course for beginners in association with Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain

"Brilliant course + experience in general. Really welcoming, inspiring people. I'm definitely going to carry on walling, but would very much advise future course members to take warm layers + waterproofs... Anyone who showed up in jeans really suffered in the driving rain + wind of the sunday, but I was v.impressed that no-one chickened out 'cause of the weather. Such a satisfying craft. Thanks!"

Yanina Mucha-Carling reviewed: Spinning Lesson

"I read Mia's reviews and they triggered me into contacting her. I was pleasantly surprised by her prompt response to my inquiry. And I was not disappointed when I attended a half day course with her. I found Mia to be attentive and patient with my queries. I enjoyed hearing about the construction of the fibres, what happens when the fibre is pulled, combed and carded; the various ways of spinning the fibres and then the plying of the fibres. I felt thoroughly inspired throughout my time with Mia. I also got to meet the alpacas and we even ate our lunch with them! What cuties they are! Mia also showed me how to care for my wheel, which I greatly appreciated. Finally, Mia offered support by e mail with any queries that I may have in the future. I want to go back for another course with Mia to learn a few more things about spinning and using fibres in other ways. I've had a great time and I will thoroughly recommend Mia to my friends who are interested in spinning. A BIG thank you Mia!"

Christina Davies reviewed: Beginners Hand spinning - 'From fleece to fibre’ - at All in a Spin

"Thank you Dunja - I had a fab day yesterday. My yarn is lovely and dry now and I'm already wondering what to make with it. Oh, and my husband was actually impressed with the fact that I'd spun my own wool! So was I! A lovely inspirational day and well worth treating oneself too or gifting as a present. Thank you again for a lovely lunch - I meant to ask you for the recipe for the delicious apple cake. Hopefully see you at a Guild meeting soon. Christina"

Rob Baker reviewed: One to one, One day, blacksmith course

"I did a two day course with Alex and it was great fun! I made a candle stick holder and a rams head poker. Both were very interesting things to make and combined a number of different techniques. Alex's approach is to demonstrate a technique and then supervise while you to try it for yourself. This worked well as it means that the final item you end up with is completely your own work - from the initial design to the final finished piece. I learnt so much on both days and would love to go back in future. To top it off, my candle stick holder got full approval from the other half so it's made it to a prime location on top of the dining room table! Well chuffed! : )"

Jo Brown reviewed: Hand spinning for beginners at Cartmel Handspun

"Elaine came to my home to teach myself and a friend since we both have health issues. Elaine was great, very patient and taught us fantastically. My friend had no previous experience of spinning and is now buying her own drop spindle as she got bitten by the spinning bug in a big way :) I already had a bit of experience with the spindle but was self taught, it was interesting to see how a professional does it. Elaine taught me to use my spinning wheel which I could not get set up correctly. Since then I have spun almost every night and even done some plying of my yarns. Elaine does a secondary/ intermediate course as well as beginners course. I am looking forward to going on her intermediate course in the future. If you live in the north of England or are holidaying there I cant recommend Elaine highly enough to teach you"

James Roulston-Eldridge reviewed: Shoemaking Workshop

"An absolutely excellent workshop and now I have a brilliant pair of shoes to show for it. A great environment to learn and work in and pitched at the right pace to complete the shoes in one day but not feel rushed at the same time. This is a great course if you just love hand crafts or are a shoe fanatic. A great insight into how shoes are made and the skills needed to do so. Alison and Emily were great on the day and couldn't be more helpful. Well worth the money and I would definitely go back for the longer boot making course. Thank you for a wonderful experience."

Matt W reviewed: Blacksmithing Introduction courses in Yorkshire and the North East

"All told, a really enjoyable day and one I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone regardless of age, experience or perceived ability. Everyone will take away a sense of achievement and something crafted in steel made by the strength of their own arm. This isn't a diluted demonstration day, but one of getting stuck in with fire, hammer and tongs. Adrian, Debbie and Andy's warm welcome, encouragement, guidance, good humour, patience and truly excellent home cooked food made for an unforgettable birthday treat. I hope to return one day for more of the same."

Siobhan Renshaw reviewed: Make silver jewellery using precious metal clay or silver clay

"What a truly special experience our wedding ring making day with Toni was. Toni is very knowledgable teacher, able to communicate her expertise on this craft- in which neither myself or my partner had any experience, with clarity and simplicity. Very grateful for her guidance, reassurances, patience and numerous cups of tea and coffee! It made for a memorable and day for us both. A fun and affordable method of creating priceless rings!"

Christine reviewed: Introduction to Spoon Carving

"Had a wonderful day. Really enjoyed making my spoon from scratch and learning how to use the tools to shape a lump of wood into a respectable spoon shape. Chris was really helpful and encouraging, offering alternative methods if I was struggling with any processes. I was completely absorbed all day, and am seriously considering trying it as a hobby at home. The setting was beautiful, the food just right and I left (clutching my spoon) feeling relaxed and happy. I thoroughly recommend this course. The surrounding countryside is really pretty, we stayed locally the night before and walked a few miles along the Kennet canal."

Paul Bartlett reviewed: Wood turning courses

"Hi George & Sue I have wanted to try my hand at woodturning for years now and I have frequently considered buying a lathe and tools online and getting cracking. Luckily I resisted the temptation to go it alone and after seeing you on the TV I made the decision to book a days course with you. What a smart move that was! My day with you last Friday was extremely informative and despite the rotten weather (or fantastic weather if you are a gardener!) I had a truly wonderful day. I would like to thank you George for your patience all day especially when I repeated certain mistakes. Your knowledge is second to none and apart from ending the day with a beautiful bowl (which my wife had to tear out of my hands before we visited our local that evening as I wanted to take it with me!) I also left your house with a lot more of an idea of what to do than I arrived with. Having said that I realise this new knowledge is only the tip of a very large iceberg and I am keen to learn more. I will be booking further days with you again soon. I would also like to thank you for your kind offer to help in the future if I get stuck with sourcing tools or materials or when I need further information, that really makes a difference. Thank you Sue for providing me with food and water throughout the day, it was a real pleasure to meet you and chat with both you and George when we were taking our breaks. You have kick started a whole new interest for me now I have retired and I am looking forward to taking it further. Again, many thanks to you both for making it a great day for me and I look forward to seeing you again soon. Best wishes, Paul Bartlett"

"I had great fun learning basic blacksmith techniques and went home with a snail keyring and a dragon coat rack to show for it. Adrian and Andy are excellent teachers and helped everyone get the most out of their day. Debbie's catering was wonderful and she absolutely contributed to the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. If you fancy a try at blacksmithing, book on this course, I would thoroughly recommend it."

Jo Havard reviewed: Crochet workshop - Benny Rens Creations

"I loved learning to crochet with Bethany - I had literally never picked up a crochet hook before and had no clue how to form a single stitch. As well as learning the various basic stitches and techniques needed to crochet a granny square, I gained an understanding of principles such as the effect that different hook sizes and yarn thicknesses have on the finished item as well as the qualities of different types of yarn. Bethany is a very patient teacher and gives clear explanations and demonstrations that are close enough to see and at a good pace for watching and following. I haven't looked back and a little while on I am now confident to follow patterns, adapt them and even just make it up myself from scratch with no pattern for simpler items. Definitely recommended!"
