Over the last 19 years or so Steve's natural talent and feel for the materials he works with has produced some inspirational work and in 2008 he took the plunge, and became a full time woodturner.
He produces functional pieces such as bowls, platters, plates (treen), intricate decorative artistic pieces, and a variety of intriguing boxes and vessels. Also sculptural works of art to hang on the wall or display on a table. He uses locally sourced timber from sustainably sources where ever possible.
His production turning ranges from spindles for builders, furniture makers and kitchen designers to finials, feet and knobs for antique repairers and rustic bowls for furniture designers.
Steve is in demand as a woodturning teacher at his workshop in Newbury, Berkshire covering the Hampshire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire areas to mention but a few. He can also teach in your workshop if required, please contact him to discuss this requirement.
In 2010 Steve was accepted on to the Register of Professional Turners, including The Worshipful Company of Turners, and is also a member of the (AWGB) Association of Woodturners of Great Britain.

Thank you for an interesting and informative day, and introduction to woodturning.
Your explanation of tools, technique and properties of different woods was easy to understand and hopefully this was evident in the pieces I made......almost by myself 😉
Thank you again, and if I need a refresher at anytime I will gladly book another course.

Just a short note to thank you for sharing your knowledge and showing patience and restraint when a complete novice makes a complete hash of it! Very much enjoyed the day and many thanks for sharing your skills with me.

Many thanks for a most enjoyable day, cannot believe how much knowledge you passed on in just one day, my confidence has been enhanced no end and hopefully after a little more practice and experience my skill will also improve.
It was a great day and very much appreciated.
Please thank Sheila for the constant supply of fluids.

Hi Steve, just a note to thanks you for your time, help, and advice on Friday and to say how much I enjoyed the day, especially as it seems it might be worthwhile going a bit further with wood turning, so i may have a new hobby now!
The family were impressed with the candle stick and the bowl I brought home so its was a successful day.
Next step is to look at the hardware needed and get some in place to work with.

I spent a day with Steve on his one day course. I'm a novice and really enjoyed Steve's informal but practical and informative approach to teaching the foundations of woodturning. He is a talented tutor drawing on expertise from his initial hobby days to his accomplished professional years. His workshop is an Aladdin's cave of completed and experimental work, not to mention a tool or bespoke jig for every job! Thanks for an excellent day and good company.

Just to say a big thanks for a great day - I was grateful for all the advice you gave me.
Thanks again and later this year, if you’re up for it, I'll come for another session once I’ve had some practise.

Thank you for a great day at your woodturning course yesterday. The course
was well planned and covered all the elements I wanted. You are an excellent
instructor and you explain and demonstrate in a thoroughly informative and
understandable manner. Overall it was a really enjoyable experience and I
have no doubt I will be returning later this year.
